Not convinced an interview with Emma's mum will win the short film competition, Rikki decides to get some award-winning shark footage. Zane recruits Lewis to re-enact a record windsurfing run.

Lewis and the girls enter a short film contest held at the JuiceNet cafe, but Lewis, last year's champion, is fresh out of ideas. Rikki and Cleo are roped into doing a film about Emma's mother, but Rikki, thinking that the film is boring, sneaks off to shoot her own film, featuring some impressive underwater footage of sharks. Meanwhile, Zane, ineligible to compete himself, as his father is on the judging panel, recruits Lewis to shoot a film of him windsurfing around Mako Island, recreating (and hopefully beating), his father's windsurfing record of several years before. But things don't go to plan, when Zane falls off his windsurfer, right in the middle of Mako Island's shark breeding ground.

A short film contest on the subject of real heroes captures the girls' imaginations. However, making a film about Emma's mother isn't Rikki's idea of fun so she decides to make her own film using her mermaid abilities to capture some impressive underwater footage. Inelligible to compete in the contest himself due to his father being one of the judges, Zane recruits Lewis to document his reenactment of his father's famous record-breaking windsurfing ride around Mako Island. When Zane gets into trouble in the shark-infested waters, Rikki is on hand to keep him safe.
