Storyline

Bilbo Baggins is swept into a quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever ... Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities ... A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to ... Written by Production

Trivia

Although having a big part in the movie, Azog the Orc is long dead at the start of the book, only mentioned once as the killer of Thrór (Thorin's grandfather). According to the Appendices of the Lord of the Rings novels, Azog killed Thrór when the latter had wandered into the mines of Moria alone. This led to a nine-year war between Dwarves and Orcs that culminated in the Battle of Azanulbizar outside the gates of Moria, where Azog was killed by Thorin's second cousin Dáin. The movie includes the battle but has Azog only lose an arm, making him one of the returning villains in the trilogy instead. See more »

Goofs

Early in the journey, as the Dwarves, Bilbo, and Gandalf are riding in the rain, none of the characters are really wet. In the downpour, water should be streaming down Bilbo's face and off of Gandalf's hat and beard. See more »

Quotes

[first lines]
Old Bilbo: My dear Frodo, you asked me once if I had told you everything there was to know about my adventures. And while I can honestly say I've told you the truth, I may not have told you all of it. I am old, Frodo. I am not the same hobbit as I once was. It is time for you to know what really happened.

Let me start by saying that i have never watched any of the Lord of The Rings movies before.I was told to start with the hobbit. I was amazed at how cool this franchise must be as i loved every minute of it.I kinda feel ashamed for not giving this series a try earlier. 8/10 from me ,yeah that good.
