Weak
borderline_maniac17 January 2008
I watched the movie and however my expectations weren't too high, I must say that this flick has nothing that that I like in a 'thriller':

It was boring, it had nerving 'conversations', a predictable plot and poor acting (I must admit, that if there isn't a real script, what can be expected from acting?) This movie is a wannabee of its worst kind. It tries to jump on the "I have lost my mind - and I try to reconstruct the puzzle"-train. But, please Mr. Scherman, leave this to directors who really know their job - as for instance Chris Nolan ('Memento'), Brad Anderson ('The Machinist') or James Magold ('Identity') or John Polson ('Hide and Seek') - that admittedly is a little weaker than the other examples, just to mention a few.

I repeat: Don't expect too much - or better to say Nothing' out of this movie. For 'round 90 minutes there are only two (b-)actors walking through a wood talking nonsense.

So neither waste your time nor money!

Regrettable. A human puzzle.
michaelRokeefe22 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Unfortunately, director Leo Scherman's NEVER FORGET is all but memorable. Lou Diamond Phillips plays Steven, who awakens alone in the middle of the woods and he is bloody, beaten and hanging by his foot from a tree. Before the rope snaps and down comes Steven a blood covered knife falls from his pocket. He has no idea where he is or what has happened. He is approached by Andy(Kristen Holden-Reid), who accuses him of murder. Murdering who? The two ramble and stumble their way through the woods all-the-while Steven is trying to recover his memory and put together the human puzzle he is part of. To be exact, who is Andy? Maybe he is the murderer, he does have a gun. But Steven is the one bloody. Steven's amnesia is fading in and out as the two men arrive at a home in the woods...can Steven trust what he thinks he remembers? Anxiety builds with an amount of boredom and the confusing last quarter of the movie I assume was done on purpose. Probably one of the worse movies Phillips has been in...and he has had his share.

Brainless, but worthwhile film.
andsuchisprogress15 February 2008
Watched this one morning instead of going to class. It's an easy watch and somewhat enjoyable, although there are certainly better films of this genre to watch. THIS FILM IS NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE LEONARD NEMOY MOVIE OF THE SAME NAME.

Our main character, Frank, wakes up in the forest with amnesia, along with a man who, at gunpoint, accuses Frank of murdering a group of people. The psychological thriller expounds from this point, as Frank's recollections throughout the movie distort and become almost nonsensical.

I enjoyed the movie for what it was. It's worth watching on cable if it comes around and worth renting, just for the sake of wanting to watch a thriller without thinking too hard.

don't watch this one

This movie is a waste of time.

Unless your type of movie is watching two guys with one guy pointing a gun at the other guy for 1 1/2 hours walking through a barren forest, skip it.

This movie bored me to death. The actors are terrible and the plot is terrible.

This is no Drama, neither a Thriller.. but a mere snooze.

I give this movie a 1/10, only because I had an interest in the IMDb tagline.

Do not waste your time and money on this movie.

So Who Did It?
bkoganbing8 November 2011
Never Again opens with poor Lou Diamond Phillips hanging from a trapper's noose by one leg and then falling down and not remembering anything about how he might have gotten there. Along comes Kris Holden- Ried bearing a weapon and accusing Lou of being a murderer, specifically of his wife. The two then tramp through the woods with Holden-Ried holding a gun on Phillips who can't remember anything, but like Gregory Peck in Mirage, bits and pieces start coming back.

Would that this film which was shot in Canada standing in for the woods of Northern Michigan was half as good as Mirage. After a while you're starting not care who might have done what. The ending however is a surprise of sorts and in a real minor key, no dramatic climaxes here.

Lou mistook a Canadian goose and wound up with a Canadian turkey.

Pointless babble

(2007) Never Forget THRILLER/ MYSTERY

Straight-to-rental crap starring Lou Diamond Phillips as Frank whose just woke up with amnesia while tied on to a tree with a rope upside down and the unknown assailant going through the forest looking for him. As Frank regains his memory the movie gets more ludicrous as it progresses until the very end which is stupid beyond belief. By watching this film, anyone can tell this film is trying to make the most of Lou Diamond Phillips presence available as much as possible since all the other actors are non-commercial actors. If you use a "fast- forward" button while playing, you won't have to listen to the babble of this pointless film and still be able to understand it! Bomb.

THEY SCREWED UP THE BOX TOO!
nogodnomasters11 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The box claims the name of the main character is Steven. In the movie his name is Fred Hill. The movie starts off with Fred or Steven (LDP) coming to, after being hung upside down by his foot in a tree. He has blood on his head and a knife falls from his belt. The rope breaks and LDP is on the ground with a bum knee and no memory on how he got where he was, who did this to him, or if they are still around. So what does he do? He shouts for help. Then when he hears someone coming in his direction (apparently the reason why he was shouting) he takes off running in the opposite direction. The man, Andy, who catches up with him has a gun, and LDP has no memory. They walk through the woods, with LDP being bullied at gun point, looking for the two story "cabin" with LDP getting bits and pieces of his memory back as they stroll along. His memory is confusing as sometimes he sees himself, then sometimes he sees Andy doing the exact same thing. Most of the film is taken up by the stroll in the woods with flashbacks. When they finally get to the cabin, you can't wait for the movie to end. By that point I really couldn't care who did what. No nudity. No sex. Not much plot. Bad language. Unless you are related to LDP, there is no reason to watch this film.

A nice, little film
MBunge21 June 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I'd never heard of this film before. You probably have never heard of it. All I could tell from looking at the DVD case was that it was a low budget thriller starring Lou Diamond Phillips and, be honest, that's not exactly a good indication of sterling quality, is it? Yet amongst all the flotsam floating on today's sea of crappy cinema, Never Forget is like a lifeboat. You can crawl into it and, for at 83 minutes at least, be safe and dry and have a pretty good time.

The story begins with a man (Lou Diamond Phillips) waking up in the middle of the woods. He's bleeding from his head and is hanging upside down from a tree, his foot caught in a rope snare. Upon extricating himself, he realizes he has no memory of who or where he is. All he has is a knife with the name Tom Martin on it and a wallet with a driver's license that identifies him as Frank Hill. Neither is much help when a guy named Andy (Kris Holden-Reid) shows up and points a gun at him. It seems that in these woods, there is a cabin and in that cabin, there are some dead bodies. Whether they were killed by Frank or by Andy, however, isn't at all clear.

This is a well made film and not just in the technical sense. Most movies nowadays, even the grotesquely horrible ones, are made with a basic level of mechanical competence. Never Forget exceeds that low standard by a good measure. There's some veritable skill at work here, from the camera work to the staging to the editing and just about every bit of filmmaking in between. Even the violence, which is frequently one of the weakest aspects of low budget movies, is well choreographed and well executed. Excellent use is made of the natural scenery and there are more than a few images that will make you pay attention.

To be truthful, the storytelling here is better than the story. When you get to the end you can't help but notice the filmmakers were cheating along way. Some of the things the characters do make no sense when it's finally revealed who and what they are. They were meant to keep the viewer guessing but not in a fair way. A character's actions need to be explained and the only explanation for some of the actions in this movie is "the filmmakers couldn't think of legitimate ways to sustain the mystery, so they just had the characters do things contrary to their nature in order to keep the audience off balance".

But the story isn't terrible. There's a neat theme running through it about how qualities like courage and cowardice don't have a moral dimension. For example, Frank is always portrayed as the more forceful and assertive personality without it ever being obvious, until the end, whether that demonstrates the virtue of the good guy or the strength of purpose belonging to the bad guy. Andy is weaker and more hesitant, but is that because he's a caring man plunged into a nightmare or because he's a deceitful, scheming worm?

Never Forget is about 85% Lou Diamond Phillips and Kris Holden-Reid on screen by themselves and they both do a great job pulling the viewer in and holding their attention, without ever resorting to exaggerated theatrics. These aren't the kind of performances that will win a lot of awards or draw a lot of attention. It's the kind of professional acting that elevates whatever material it takes on.

There's an ocean of video garbage out there, with more getting pumped into it every Tuesday of the year. Nice, little films like Never Forget are too often plopped into that stinking surf and drown, earning neither money nor praise for the folks who made them. All they can have is pride in creating something worthwhile. These people should feel that pride and you should reward them and yourself by watching this movie.

Entertaining
RobinCook7023 July 2008
I didn't know what to expect from this movie when I rented it today. I have noticed that Lou Diamond Phillips has been diversifying his acting roles rather than his past "cause" or "message" type movies, and he can actually act! I'm impressed. After a deluge of his past message/cause movies (that caused to form a feeling of dread for me when I'd see his name attached), I hesitated to try out some new movie rentals lately with his name on them, and have to say I found them entertaining and enjoyable. This one did not disappoint me (and the Westerns he's been in were good, too). The premise storyline seems hackneyed and simple, but it was more complex, and very well done ... kept me guessing to the end as to who was the bad guy. The movie set was the woods, woods, and more woods, so to do a feature like this and keep me from hitting the Stop button ... well, the movie was intense and kept me interested. The one item that I found to be a bit out of place was the scene with arterial blood spurting (knocked a star off for this since I thought it cheapened the film). I think that could have been left out, but perhaps it was left in for gore fans.

If you're looking for a deep kind of gory thriller, this wouldn't fall into that category. This is more of an intellectual guessing type thriller that exceeded any expectation I had upon renting it. It's not a big blockbuster, but I'd recommend giving it a watch!

Don't go by appearances
ulicknormanowen3 August 2021
Another story of amnesia ,but the first part is interesting ,because there are only two characters on the screen ,lost in a forest ;Lou Diamond Phillips looks like a victim of tragic circumstances and Kris H. Reid the bad boy who keeps him at bay with his gun ;when they meet a dying cop, the victim shows more humanity and urges his enemy to put an and to his suffering .

Little by little , visions come back to haunt the amnesiac : a woman's face ,his wife? ;then horrible pictures of a massacre .

There are plot holes :what's the point of involving a second couple? The end (with the obligatory unexpected twist) does not give any explanation.

No masterpiece ,but short, dense ,and gripping .Violence kept to the minimum .

Liked it!
callisto2419 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I liked it. Found it tense and gripping. I recommend to watch it without looking at the trailer or the other extras at first because they are giving away too much. An extra plus for the 'Behind the Scenes' application. The actors and the director had a hard job to do and managed it well. I won't compare it to other movies which plots seem similar at the first look. It's different. Often it reminds on a stage play. Another reason for liking it is the autumn wood. It creates a certain atmosphere of insecurity, depression and damnation I enjoyed very much. I hadn't heard or seen anything about it before, so unexpected twists got me completely.

Boring ..
ichocolat20 May 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This is a boring movie, with an incredulously boring plot, where two characters rambled and bitching about each other throughout the movie. And the tagline gives the film away, I found out about the twist after watching it for 10 minutes.

This is a kind of film in which you could just doze off and woke up at the end of the film and still know what's happened in the film. It was expected, the dialogs cheesy, the plot leaving much to be desired.

However, I've to give credit for the twist at the end of the film, I thought it was brilliant and original. It's been awhile seen I've seen main character as the villain, and I've seen it now.

All in all, not a great movie, but watchable.
