Trivia

This title draws inspiration in some respects from the series Band of Brothers (2001). The title is in fact a direct quote from Richard D. Winters : "I cherish the memories of a question my grandson asked me the other day, when he said, 'Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?' Grandpa said, 'No, but I served in a company of heroes.'". The paratrooper unit also directly quotes from winters "we're paratroopers, we're supposed to be surrounded" See more »

A different take on the RTS genre
15 April 2018 | by anselmdanielSee all my reviews

Company of Heroes is a Real-Time Strategy game by Relic Entertainment. The video game is set in World War 2's Western Front, pitting the United States against the German Wehrmacht. The game features single player and multiplayer game modes.

The single player is focused on the United States perspective and has the player control the US infantry, airborne, and armor companies in missions that vary from assault, defense, and special operations. The single player also features cinematics that follow each company to tell the story of the Liberation of France. Although cliche, the story has good pacing and gameplay. The missions alternate which company is controlled.

Much of the game's replayability is from the multiplayer. The game has two factions, the United States and German Wehrmacht. The United States relies on versatile riflemen to keep an aggressive pace for the entire game. The faction's 3 commanders: airborne, infantry, and armor unlock special units and abilities as the game goes on. Each commander has artillery support in different ways. The Wehrmacht utilize a more specialist approach and has a variety of weapons and upgrades to choose from. The Wehrmacht can choose defensive, blitzkrieg, or terror doctrines that also unlock special units and abilities. The multiplayer is balanced in the 1v1 game mode. The game has an unique flow where the match up swings back and forth due to player actions and abilities. The unique match up is how the game differs from others in its genre.

I highly recommend Company of Heroes.

Four stars out of four stars.
