- Feryl is almost captured when the Capture Chariot crashes while he is trying to help Leoric stop a pirate raid. Feeling overshadowed by the other Spectral Knights, he chooses to leave their ranks. When one of his spies hears this, Darkstorm goes with Mortredd to seek his services. Feryl refuses and fights them off before they can capture and force him, but Darkstorm has Cravex have the Spider of Fear of his staff bite Leoric to make him suffer a nightmare he takes as an omen that the Darkling Lords have seized Feryl. Leoric runs into a trap and is captured, has his lion totem removed and staff stolen, and is placed in a device which will stretch him until his muscles break. Feryl follows, but has no time to get the other Spectral Knights to help him fight.—brainybrailler@comcast.net
- A band of pirates whose ship is designed to travel on land are raiding a village when Leoric and Feryl appear on the scene in the Capture Chariot. Leoric leaps at the captain while Feryl drives the Capture Chariot at several members of the crew only for them to move aside at the last moment, causing Feryl to ram the Capture Chariot into a well. Before he can extract himself, he is set upon by the pirates. Leoric, in his Lion form, defeats the captain and jumps on top of the Capture Chariot, causing the pirates who have Feryl pinned down to retreat. The pirates try to escape, but Leoric, having changed back into his human form, gives chase in one of the hoverpods and puts their ship out of commission. As the villagers gather around Leoric and congratulate him, Feryl begins to question his worth as a Spectral Knight.
Later, Feryl tells Galadria and Arzon that he feels he is a danger to the Spectral Knights, so he is leaving their ranks. He then drives off in the Capture Chariot, leaving Galadria and Arzon to explain his decision to Leoric. But one of Darkstorm's spies witnesses Feryl's departure and reports back to Darkstorm, who tells Mortdredd that he plans to try and enlist Feryl as a Darkling Lord.
That night, Darkstorm and Mortdredd approach Feryl at a tavern called The Sign of the Ram. Darkstorm tries to persuade Feryl to join forces with him, but Feryl immediately makes it clear that he will not betray Leoric, to which Darkstorm says Feryl will be forced to join the Darkling Lords if he won't do so willingly. Feryl retorts that Darkstorm and Mortdredd will have to capture him first, and a fight breaks out between the three knights. As Mortdredd and Feryl exchange blows, Darkstorm summons his Power of Decay, but Feryl (in his Wolf form) escapes through the window and, changing back into his human form, destroys the Demon of Decay with a blast from the Capture Chariot. As Darkstorm and Mortdredd fly off in the Sky-Claw, Feryl shoots at them, but misses. He then renews his vow not to betray Leoric even though he is no longer a Spectral Knight.
Darkstorm, still determined to turn the situation to his advantage, has Cravex summon the Spider of Fear which bites Leoric as he sleeps, causing him to dream that Feryl is a prisoner in Castle Darkstorm and is being dangled by his ankles over a pit of alligators. Waking, Leoric goes rushing out of New Valarak, only to stop in his tracks when he sees what in the darkness appears to be Feryl's dead body hanging from a tree. It's actually Virulina, who is wearing a replica of Feryl's armour, and when Leoric moves closer she kicks him to the ground. Darkstorm, Mortdredd and Cravex then gather in front of Leoric, who tries to fight back only to be captured and thrown into the Magical Dungeon. Having removed Leoric's Totem, the Darkling Lords head back to Castle Darkstorm, taking Leoric with them. A short later, Feryl (in the Capture Chariot) notices that he is being followed. He boards the Dagger Assault, where he overhears Darkstorm and Virulina talking about how easy it was to lure Leoric into the Darkling Lords' trap and realises the Darkling Lords must have made Leoric think he was in danger.
At Castle Darkstorm, Leoric is imprisoned in Darkstorm's pulley web, and the Darkling Lords begin making plans to attack New Valarak and wipe out the remaining five Spectral Knights. Darkstorm uses Leoric's Power Staff to summon the Owl of Wisdom, which says a number of warriors are about to taste bitter defeat but does not specify whether this means the Spectral Knights or the Darkling Lords. While most of the Darkling Lords check their weapons in preparation for the attack, Mortdredd is sent to check on Leoric and make sure he isn't trying to escape.
Meanwhile, Feryl has followed the Darkling Lords to Castle Darkstorm, which he enters via the drains. Finding Leoric in the pulley web, he sets to work freeing him, apologising for landing him in this mess as he does so. Leoric, seeing Mortdredd about to swing towards Feryl on a rope, shouts a warning and Feryl dodges out of the way. During the fight which follows, Mortdredd pulls a lever which causes an alarm to start ringing, alerting the other Darkling Lords. They hurry down to the dungeon where Feryl, having freed Leoric, throws Mortdredd into the pulley web before he and Leoric make their escape. When the Darkling Lords reach the dungeon, they find Mortdredd tangled in the pulley web. Darkstorm demands to know where Leoric is and Mortdredd stammers that Feryl has freed him.
The Darkling Lords ransack Castle Darkstorm in search of Leoric and Feryl, who have gone to the Magical Dungeon to restore Leoric's Totem, only for Virulina to spot them before Leoric has regained his full power. Leoric tells Feryl to stall the Darkling Lords, who arrive to find Feryl leaning against the wall and casually tossing his dagger into the air. Feryl boldly insults the Darkling Lords, provoking Lexor into telling Cindarr to unleash the Beast of Destruction which rampages through the Castle as Feryl flees in his Wolf form. Just as the Beast of Destruction corners Feryl, Leoric (his Totem restored) comes to the rescue, and the two friends board the Dagger Assault which they use as a battering ram to knock the drawbridge down. As Darkstorm and Mortdredd give chase in the Sky-Claw, Leoric and Feryl board the Capture Chariot (which Feryl hid in some bushes) and shoot the Sky-Claw down.
Later Feryl tells Leoric he feels he is to blame for him being captured, to which Leoric says Feryl was the one who got him out of the trouble he got himself into. Feryl continues to have doubts about whether he is fit to be a Spectral Knight, but Leoric points out that it was Feryl's ability to activate vehicles that enabled him to save him. His confidence restored, Feryl rejoins the Spectral Knights, and he and Leoric head back to New Valarak.
