A good show that droned on at times

Make Your Play seemed to be the politicly correct version of all participation TV shows on ITV before it. The studio was obviously meant for guests but none ever appeared, the format was thrill less and the presenters lacked the charm of Quizmania and The Mint by miles.

That said, the show wasn't in it's self a bad show, it just became to politicly correct. Whereas Quizmania mocked callers for the enjoyment of it's viewers, and got them involved as much as possible with emails and competitions, Make Your Play took the entirely opposite approach.

The show during it's initial run was completely unwatchable all the way through and the hard sell tactics, ( slow moving music beds, saying the number over and over) were enough to drive anyone crazy, but when the show re branded it's self and turned pink it got a lot of fun back that it was so badly missing.

Maybe it was because the prizes went from £40,000 all the way down to £25 so it would seem silly to put a hard emphasis on such a small amount of money. As with every show it had a shelf life and knew it, but lightened up drastically towards the end.

The presenters the show had were brilliant on other formats, but lacklustre here. The show was trying too hard not to offend anybody and get people playing that it ruined the potential of a good studio and format. The studio was amazing, the upbeat music beds were (and are) still some of the best PTV music beds in the business, it just seems a shame that on another network, (say Channel 5,) the show could of been more laid back and allowed to breathe.

You only need to look at how much ITV have ruined Challenge Jackpot by making it into Jackpot247 to see what I'm talking about.

The best presenter by far was Charlie Mcardle, who injected energy and fun into another wise boring show.

The show served it's purpose, money spinning for the network, it did it's notions and I can't honestly remember one highlight, unlike Quizmania which was compelling viewing.
