CW to premiere new Canadian comedy series ‘18 to Life’ this summer CW is going to be premiere a new Canadian comedy series about a modern-day Romeo and Juliet, entitled “18 to Life.”

In the premiere episode of “18 To Life,” when Tom and Jessie – 18-year-old next-door neighbors who have grown up together – run off and get married, their warring families are forced to become one in this hilarious multi-generational half-hour about relationships, true love, and who takes out the garbage. The series explores intimate relationships in combustible combinations as husband-wife, mom-dad, and in-laws all struggle to influence the newlyweds and control the extended family’s destiny. Tom and Jessie move into his parents’ attic and their marriage becomes public property, creating an endless string of challenges for the couple. As this new love blooms audaciously amidst the two settled marriages, it stirs up new frictions and old passions in both sets of parents.

The Centaur Theatre Company's In Piazza San Domenico Gets Extended, New Dates 11/3-8

From the author of Mambo Italiano, comes the World Premiere of a light-hearted and hilariouscomedy about love, lust and misunderstandings, inspired by Feydeau, Goldoni and Sophia Loren.

It's a burning hot August in Naples, 1952 - "earthquake weather", and the citizens of Piazza San Domenico are all stirred up when Carmelina Benevento (Christina Broccolini) suddenly faints upon hearing some bad news about her fiancé, Guido (Guido Cocomello). A series of conspicuous sightings between people provoke gossip.

Misinterpretations ensue as The Players contrive their own schemesand desperately try to keep face. But love and earth tremors have a way of setting things straight! Playwright, Steve Galluccio is a three-time Gemini Award-winning writer whose career started in Montreal's vibrant underground theatre scene. Galluccio burst into "legit" theatre in 2000 with his breakthrough work, Mambo Italiano which was translated into French by Michel Tremblay.

Canadian Oscars: 28th Genie award noms favor Eastern Promises and Away From Her

  • The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television have announced the nominees for the 28th annual Genie Awards and leading the pack with 12 noms each is David CronenbergDavid Cronenberg

The real applause goes to films like Away From Her (7 noms), The Tracey Fragments (6 noms) and Continental, a Film without Guns (5 noms). Two highly promising films that fizzled this year are veteran directors François Girard's Silk (it garnered many technical  noms) and Denys Arcand's Days of Darkness who got some sympathy votes. Interesting side note: Ellen Page is going up against Julie Christie not with Juno but with Canadian made Bruce McDonald's The Tracey Fragments.
