Universal Studios intended to build a cinematic universe with reboots of their classic Monster properties: the Dark Universe. A series of connected creature features, starting with a new version of The Mummy (watch it Here), a big budget adventure film led by Tom Cruise. It sounds like a success story in the making, but something went wrong on the way to the screen. The Mummy was a financial failure, poorly received by critics and movie-goers alike. The Dark Universe was dead on arrival. So let’s look back at this bungled attempt at creating a cinematic universe and find out What the F*ck Happened to The Mummy.

When Rachel Weisz charmed audiences as Evelyn in the first two ‘The Mummy’ films, her absence from the third installment, ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’, left many fans puzzled. In this article, we’ll explore the layers behind Weisz’s decision not to return, shedding light on the complexities of Hollywood casting and the personal choices actors face. The Mummy 3 Script One of the core reasons behind Rachel Weisz’s departure from ‘The Mummy 3’ could be traced back to the script. The prospect of Brendan Fraser returning for The Mummy 4 is exciting and could repair the franchise's legacy. The right circumstances for The Mummy 4 include an engaging storyline that satisfies Fraser and longtime fans. The Mummy 4 could benefit from a time gap approach, similar to the success of Top Gun: Maverick, to bring back nostalgia and fresh elements to the franchise.
The prospect of The Mummy 4 with Brendan Fraser returning following his Oscar win is exciting and could repair the worst parts of The Mummy trilogy's legacy. Fraser's relevant cinematic comeback in recent times has boosted anticipation for any news about The Mummy 4. Although not much pertaining to a fourth installment has come to pass, The Mummy 4 would still fix a lot about what went wrong within the franchise, particularly in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and perhaps reinvigorate Fraser's classic trilogy.

If there's one thing I've learned from watching countless horror movies and episodes of "Scooby-Doo," it's that you don't mess with mummies. It's a superstition that's held so strong over the years that even when visiting museums, I tend to respectfully steer clear of the ancient Egypt exhibits. Myths about the latent powers of mummified royals have been around for ages, and many of them have been unfortunately influenced by stereotype-heavy depictions of Egypt and surrounding African and Middle Eastern cultures. Regardless of how much the world now knows about ancient Egyptian burial rituals, when most American moviegoers picture a mummy in their mind's eye these days, they're as likely to think about a Universal Pictures movie monster as they are the real thing.

Recasting major characters can be a risky move for a movie, but sometimes the replacement proves to be even better than the original. Don Cheadle's performance as War Machine in Iron Man 2 was a triumph, redefining the role and adding depth and humor. Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is an iconic portrayal that is impossible to imagine anyone else exceeding.
Recasting an actor can be tricky, whether it arrives later in a franchise or even before a movie's release, but sometimes the replacement proves even better than the original. Recasting major characters with a new actor is often considered a bad omen for an upcoming movie, but several examples prove that this is not always the case. Whether an actor is recast because of salary disputes, behind-the-scenes creative decisions, or scheduling conflicts, finding a worthy replacement to help carry the movie – or franchise – forward is rarely an easy task.

Rachel Weisz's absence from The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was a surprise, as her role as Evie launched her career. Different stories have circulated about the recasting, including a suggestion that Weisz didn't want to play a character with an adult son. Maria Bello replaced Weisz as Evie in The Mummy 3, but faced challenges because fans were attached to Weisz's portrayal. Bello did a good job, but Weisz's absence was felt. A fourth Mummy movie is still possible, especially with Brendan Fraser's resurgence in popularity. Fans are hoping for Rachel Weisz to return as Evie, as there is potential for a fresh look at the characters later in life.

The Mummy and its sequels are classics, but some elements have not aged well. For example, The Mummy sequels' visual effects were terrible, with laughably poor CGI that undermines the movies. The Mummy undermines its own message about preserving historical artifacts by revealing that the main characters profited from selling the treasures they found.
Rewatching Brendan Fraser's The Mummy trilogy reveals some unpleasant truths about the beloved franchise. The Brendan Frasier The Mummy trilogy, three of several The Mummy movies, began in 1999. The 1999 film "The Mummy" went through several changes in directors before Stephen Sommers took over, resulting in a completely different movie with a mixture of action, adventure, and horror elements. The film's original directors, including George A. Romero and Clive Barker, had unique and dark concepts for "The Mummy" that were ultimately deemed too weird. Stephen Sommers' vision for "The Mummy" involved combining elements of "Indiana Jones" and classic horror, resulting in a successful romantic adventure with horror elements that pleased audiences.
The 1999 adventure film The Mummy was almost made by three different horror directors, who would have made completely different movies. The 1932 horror classic The Mummy, directed by Karl Freund and starring Boris Karloff, got a “remake” in the late 1990s, but with a completely different story. The Mummy kept Imhotep as the antagonist but introduced adventurer Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) and Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz) as protagonists.

The Mummy franchise's success came from its balance of action, comedy, romance, and horror, along with cutting-edge CGI effects. The sequels prioritized spectacle over character relationships, leading to a decline in quality and reliance on bad CGI. The franchise became formulaic over time, with repetitive plots and a lack of compelling villains, ultimately tarnishing its reputation.
When The Mummy debuted in 1999 starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, it was a blockbuster sensation, but the franchise got worse with every sequel after that. So far, if fans count The Mummy reboot starring Tom Cruise from 2017, the movie has had three additional films including The Mummy Returns and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. The direct sequels, which featured almost all the original cast members failed to capture the magic of Stephen Summer's '90s classic for a variety of reasons.

'Meg 2: The Trench' director Ben Wheatley wants to turn the series into a full blown franchise. The filmmaker is at the helm of the killer shark sequel - which sees Jason Statham reprise his role as rescue diver Jonas Taylor - and while he doesn't want to get carried away, he thinks there is "a lot more to explore" in another follow up.He told Total Film magazine: "You don't want to talk about it until 'Meg 2' is out, but I hope [to see a third installment]."There's a lot more to explore in that world. It's very rich. The international-ness of it is very interesting."He praised the first movie for having a diverse cast without putting too much of a focus on their differences. He added: "What's so smart about the first film is that it's not 'Rush Hour'. It's not East-meets-West, 'Oh, we're all confused about each other'.

There have been talks about The Mummy 4 happening with Brendan Fraser, and Rachel Weisz could return too even though she was recast in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. While The Mummy was rebooted in 2017 as a Tom Cruise-led action movie, the 1999 adventure movie has become a beloved classic, and the sequel, The Mummy Returns, is almost as good. Though the big appeal of the movie is the globetrotting and epic historical set pieces, it's the characters Rick O'Connell (Fraser) and Evelyn Carnahan (Weisz) who ended up stealing audiences' hearts, and they had so much chemistry together.
It's no secret that the threequel wasn't anywhere near as well received as its predecessors, and that's partly due to Weisz's absence. Unfortunately, Weisz didn't return for the third Mummy movie because she reportedly didn't want to spend time away from her newborn son. As a result, Evelyn wasn't written out...

Indiana Jones helped set a new standard for adventure movies that showed the only true limits were the imaginations of its creators. However, it wouldn't be till over a decade later that adventure movies evolved to the next level by fully embracing the terror of the supernatural with 1999's The Mummy. The movie was both a feat in special effects and entertainment as it retold the story of the Universal Studios Classic Monster with a more energetic flair. One of the best elements of the movie proved to be Brendan Fraser as the charismatic but often brash adventurer Rick O'Connell, who faced the mummy with his allies.
Fraser's role in the movie helped his star rise even further, and when many remember his past works, his time in The Mummy franchise comes up almost immediately. Even still, while Fraser took some time off from physically demanding roles after 2008's...

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” began its domestic box office journey with $7.2 million in Thursday previews. That is almost on par with the $7.5 million earned by “Fast X” but well below “Rise of the Beasts” ($8.8 million), “John Wick: Chapter 4” ($8.9 million), “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” ($17.4 million) and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ($17 million). Just doing the straight Thursday-to-weekend math, Disney’s latest tentpole could land anywhere between $50 million and $65 million in its opening weekend.

Looking back on the franchise, there's a reason why The Mummy's 1999 VFX looks so much better than the sequels'. When Stephen Sommers was developing The Mummy, itself a remake of the popular horror films of the '30s starring one of the Universal Movie Monsters, it was during a period of successful VFX experimentation, with movies like Jurassic Park in the early '90s having used CGI to augment the experience of humans interacting with dinosaurs created by impressive animatronics and other practical effects. Computer-generated visual effects were still being tested, but used sparingly, could enhance the cinematic experience.
The Mummy chose to keep the '30s time period and atmosphere for its adventure tale while updating the VFX of the original, and it became a huge success. The Mummy Returns arrived just two years later, and after a sizable gap, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor followed in 2008. With each new movie,...

Rick O'Connell is often considered the main character of The Mummy franchise, but a closer look reveals that it is Evelyn who runs the show. From the very first film, Evie was always at the center of the plot, and it was her knowledge that typically saved the day. Despite this, she is often overlooked as an essential character of the series and was even recast and downplayed in the franchise's third film, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Of course, this was when things went downhill, proving that Evelyn had been way more important than anyone had given her credit for.
Throughout the Mummy movies, Rick O'Connell is the action hero everyone expects to lead a film. He's charismatic, tough, and funny—full of that American cowboy charm. Of course, he is perfectly balanced by his love interest (who eventually becomes his wife), who is brainy, quick-witted, and equally as brave.

With the absence of Rachel Weisz from The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, producers had no choice but to recast the role of Evelyn O’Connell. The movie itself was the commercially least successful one of the franchise and also received a very low Rotten Tomatoes rating of 13%. As such, one cannot fault Weisz’s reticence to once again dive into her old role. The original cast members in movies often turn into fan favorites. Therefore, entering a franchise to replace another actress who has already left her mark is never easy. Maria Bello ended up taking over the reins...

Thanks to Brendan Fraser's revitalized career, there has been reignited talk of a possible The Mummy 4, but it will have to avoid the mistake Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull made with Shia Labeouf. There's still no official announcement regarding the making or release of the movie, but if there is, fans will be happy to know that Brendan Fraser is open to starring in the film if the story is right. But if The Mummy 4 is to be successful, the right cast must be put around him.
For The Mummy 4 to be successful, Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and John Hannah need to be present. It's no wonder The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor failed to hit the mark with audiences. Oscar-winner Brendan Fraser has made it publicly known that he might return to the part of beloved action-adventure hero Rick O'Connell, but if The Mummy 4 is going to get made and the '90s franchise resurrected, one major character is going to need fixing. Rachel Weisz, Brendan’s Fraser’s co-star in The Mummy franchise, reveals she reached out to congratulate him following his Oscar win for Best Actor in The Whale. Weisz, who played the librarian-turned-aspiring Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan (later O’Connell), starred opposite Fraser in the 1999 action-adventure film, which was widely considered the highlight of his early career. While she would return to her character in the 2001 sequel The Mummy Returns, she was later replaced by Maria Bello for the 2008 threequel, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
Talking with Extra, Weisz speaks fondly of her former co-star and reveals how she congratulated him after his big Oscar win earlier this year. Calling The Whale “a staggeringly good film,” she expresses her excitement for Fraser’s latest accolade. Check out her comments below:
I’m so happy for Brendan. Very happy. I texted after his win. I texted him after I saw the performance.

In 1999, Universal Studios released The Mummy, a fresh take on the classic monster movie. The Stephen Sommers-directed film was a huge hit and turned Brendan Fraser into a bonafide movie star. The success of the first movie led to two sequels – The Mummy Returns in 2001, and Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008. And though a fourth film was slated for production, it was ultimately never released.
So whatever happened to this mysterious Mummy movie? Will it ever see the light of day, or will it remain forever hidden like an ancient relic? Let’s find out Wtf Happened to the Unmade Mummy: Rise of the Aztec Movie.
Before The Mummy’s release, Universal Studios had spent close to a decade trying to get a remake off the ground. In the late 1980s, producers James Jacks and Sean Daniel sought to modernize the 1932 classic and hoped to turn it into a potential franchise.

The first of the two The Mummy movies starring Brendan Fraser were roughly based on the film of the same name from 1932—and a potential The Mummy 4 could return to this trend. Alongside classic films like Dracula and Frankenstein, the original Mummy movie helped establish a specific niche in horror. The 1999 remake added a lot more comedy and action to the already-established plot, and these combined factors attributed to its status as a cult classic. By the third movie, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the franchise moved away from the source material, but that can change if The Mummy 4 becomes a reality.
The Mummy (1999) recycled many basics from its 1932 predecessor. The main villain was an Egyptian high priest named Imhotep, who had been mummified alive for the crime of trying to resurrect his forbidden lover, Anck-su-namun. The Mummy Returns (2001) also took influence from the original The Mummy by bringing in Anck-su-namun's reincarnated self.

A return to The Mummy franchise for a fourth installment has been highly requested, but it may be challenging without retconning some of the franchise's past failures. Overall, The Mummy is regarded as a beloved piece of nostalgia. In the age of reboots and revivals, the idea of returning to Rick and Evelyn O'Connell has never seemed more likely. However, the notorious flop that was The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor has left a stain on the franchise, ultimately making another sequel challenging to achieve without some changes to the franchise's canon story.
Actor Brendan Fraser has shared (via Variety) that he would be willing to return to his role of Rick O'Connell in a The Mummy sequel, dependent on the right idea. The franchise's third installment, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, missed the mark with audiences, and this had a great deal to do with the movie's divergence...

The Mummy franchise is one of Hollywood’s most successful film series, beginning with the 1999 remake of the original 1932 film. Although the movie received mixed reviews, it was a commercial success. It earned $416.4 million at the Box Office on a production budget of $80 million. With the success of 1999 film, The Mummy, two direct sequels – The Mummy Returns and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor – and spin-offs were produced. The movie’s plot follows the travels of its main protagonist, Rick O’Connell, as he journeys to the City of the Dead. O’Connell and his team accidentally

The Mummy movies may have already set up the perfect premise for a prequel, all thanks to Evelyn O'Connel's family history. The Mummy franchise, which saw massive success with its first two films, The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, has struggled to regain traction with subsequent sequels and reboots. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was a notorious flop, and the 2017 The Mummy movie starring Tom Cruise completely missed the flavor of the original movies. Therefore, if any future films were to do well, the franchise would need to tread carefully with its next story.
Thankfully, the first Mummy movie might have already provided the foundation to build a great sequel. When Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) first met her future husband, Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser), he questioned what a girl like her was doing in Hamunaptra. Brendan Fraser details one scary behind-the-scenes incident on The Mummy in which he was choked out. Released in 1999, The Mummy follows Fraser's Rick O'Connell, an adventurer who faces off against an awakened mummy who is determined to reunite with his long-lost love. The film was a hit and Fraser would return for two direct sequels, but the actor has made no secret of the fact that filming the action-adventure franchise exacted a harsh physical toll on his body.
In a recent interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Fraser recalls one incident, in particular, on the set of The Mummy that resulted in him being asphyxiated to the point of unconsciousness.
The actor reveals that the accident occurred while filming the movie's hanging sequence when the person in charge of holding the rope didn't give him quite enough slack. Check out Fraser's recollection of the scary incident below:

Brendan Fraser has addressed how The Mummy's iconic protagonist, Rick O'Connell, required the actor to get into a certain mindset in order to play him just right. The lead adventurer for all three films in The Mummy trilogy, Rick finds himself in the center of many ancient conflicts, two originating from Egypt, and one with ties to China. Despite the sometimes dire scenarios the intrepid explorer finds himself in throughout each film, he always maintains an energy about him that maintains the fun heart of each movie.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Fraser opens up about his key to being able to play The Mummy's Rick with the level of adventurous vigor he showed onscreen. He mentions how writer and director Stephen Sommers was inspired by decades-old adventure movies when creating Rick, and how Fraser tried to live up to Sommers' vision for the character.

With the popularity of reboots and nostalgia sequels, the hope for a The Mummy 4 movie has been high—but it would need to avoid some of the mistakes made by its predecessors. The first The Mummy movie is still considered a success and has become a cult classic. However, the performance of the subsequent sequels saw a steady decline in audiences' interest. This wasn't because people were no longer thrilled by tales of the undead (or Brendan Fraser's rugged Rick O'Connell character) but because the franchise struggled to learn from its mistakes.
When The Mummy was released, it proved to be the fun action thriller that audiences sought. The Mummy Returns attempted to duplicate this success, and though it didn't quite meet the same standard, it checked several of the boxes that pleased audiences the first time around. However, it also made a few mistakes that contributed to the tapering of interest.

The Mummy 4 may become a reality in the coming years, but if it is to be a success, it would need to learn from the mistakes made by the 2017 The Mummy remake. The failed Dark Universe film starring Tom Cruise as the new lead, Nick Morton, is regarded as a box office bomb, since it only earned a domestic gross of 80 million. This is a far cry from the success of the 1999 The Mummy, and actor Brendan Fraser has guessed why these films achieved such different results.
Original The Mummy star Brendan Fraser voiced his enthusiasm for returning to the franchise, as long as the writers could develop a good concept. He noted that he had watched Tom Cruise's adventure fighting the undead in 2017's The Mummy remake, and felt it lacked some of the essential ingredients that made the original The Mummy such a success. “It’s a film that always had the intention to change hearts and minds,” Brendan Fraser said of The Whale, for which he is nominated for the best actor Oscar, ahead of receiving the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s American Riviera Award on Tuesday night.
The popular star, who was greeted with huge applause by the Santa Barbarians who packed the historic Arlington Theater, discussed his life and career with Deadline‘s Pete Hammond, who described the actor’s recent resurgence, after several years out of the spotlight that he had occupied since the early 1990s, as “the Brenaissance.”
Coming from an “itinerate family” that spent considerable time in Europe, Fraser said that seeing plays in London as a kid hooked him on the idea of becoming an actor. He studied at a conservatory in Seattle before heading to L.A. in 1991, where he was asked by Sherry Lansing...

If The Mummy 4 wants to resurrect its franchise, it'll need to copy a casting decision from the franchise it's taken the most inspiration from – Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the final outing for Harrison Ford as the globe-trotting archeologist, features John Rhys-Davies returning as Sallah, one of Indy's greatest allies since first appearing in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Given the divisive popularity of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (from which Sallah is conspicuously absent), this news is a good sign that Indy 5 will be a return to form, and The Mummy 4 should take notes.

Brendan Fraser says it would be fun to reunite with Michelle Yeoh for The Mummy 4. Fraser shot to action-movie stardom with his role in 1999’s hit film The Mummy. Later he returned for a pair of sequels, including 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor, which co-starred Everything Everywhere All At Once legend Yeoh.
Given how high Fraser is now riding thanks to his Oscar nomination for The Whale, it’s no surprise that the call is getting louder for The Mummy to finally get another sequel.

In the age of remakes and reboots, it may be time to return to The Mummy franchise with a fourth installment — albeit only if one crucial actor makes an appearance. Brendan Fraser has already stated his interest in returning to play Rick O'Connell (via Variety). However, it would take more than just the suave adventurer to make The Mummy sequel a success. Other key characters are just as important to the franchise, and history has revealed that not recasting them hasn't yielded favorable results.
The first film in The Mummy franchise, released in 1999, was a critical and commercial hit, grossing 43 million on its opening weekend (via Box Office Mojo). It seemed to have the perfect combination of romance and adventure — made from a recipe of one part history and five parts campy horror. With a total revenue of over three billion dollars, the Twilight saga box office numbers are truly impressive. Based on Stephanie Meyer's series of fantasy romance novels, the Twilight saga consisted of five movies released annually between 2008 and 2012. Despite generally mixed-to-negative reviews from critics, each movie in the Twilight saga did outstandingly well with audiences and helped launch several similar Young Adult novel adaptations. Although many of the films made in its mold at the time failed commercially, Twilight itself remains an excellent example of the subgenre's capability for financial success.
Throughout its five movies, the Twilight saga details the relationship between human teenager Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). However, the Twilight saga wasn't initially supposed to last for that many entries. Twilight's original book sequel, Forever Dawn, would have seen the series come to a close after only two novels. Brendan Fraser details how his role in The Mummy franchise took a harsh physical toll on his body. Released in 1999, The Mummy sees Fraser playing adventurer Rick O'Connell, who teams up with Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) and Jonathan (John Hannah) to defeat a resurrected ancient Egyptian Mummy. While earning somewhat mixed reviews from critics, the film was a hit at the box office and spawned a sequel in 2001 called The Mummy Returns. Fraser would return for a third outing in 2008 with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, a film that was lambasted by critics and underperformed at the box office, essentially killing the franchise until Tom Cruise's failed reboot in 2017.

Fresh off of an Oscar nomination for his performance in “The Whale,” Brendan Fraser is opening up about the “self-loathing” that led him to perform his own stunts early into his acting career — moments he says had an element of “self-sacrifice.”
As Fraser acted in action flicks like “The Mummy” and “George of the Jungle” at the start of his career, his discomfort with fame led him to perform his own stunts as a way to ensure “those physical performances, whether fighting, dancing or comedy, had an element of self-sacrifice.”
“Absolutely there was self-loathing,” Fraser said in a recent interview with The Telegraph. “I think on some level I felt I deserved [a beating], and wanted to be the one who got in the first punch.”

The Mummy (1999) may have been the first film about mummies many of us saw, but in actuality, it was a remake of the original 1932 The Mummy. The audience reception and box office success led to two sequels, The Mummy Returns (2001) and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008). 18 years after the release of this movie, a reboot and new franchise saw the release of The Mummy (2017) with Tom Cruise as its lead actor. Brendan Fraser has expressed interest in returning to make The Mummy 4, but a straight-up fourth movie in the franchise isn’t what the O’Connell family needs. The first two Mummy movies were fun adventures, showcasing the charisma and talents of Fraser and his co-star Rachel Weisz. The third, by contrast, tried to make up for a lackluster script with more excess and was ultimately hamstrung by its predictability and lackluster CGI.
The first two entries in The Mummy franchise worked because they never took themselves too seriously. They understood what audiences wanted from the genre: action, a dash of romance, a sinister but campy villain, and protagonists it was impossible not to love. None of the sequels to The Mummy aged well or succeeded at replicating the undeniable chemistry of the original. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is expected to be the last film in which Harrison Ford will portray his iconic character, so it may be time to focus on someone from a similar mold: The Mummy's Rick O'Connell. An impressive 42 years after the 1981 release of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ford is hanging up his whip and fedora, leaving many wondering what will come next for the franchise. However, it may be a good idea to let Indy retire and allow Brendan Fraser to bring back his The Mummy character instead.

If January sets the tone for any streamer’s year then 2023 is certainly going to be the Year of True Crime on Hulu. That’s right, Hulu’s list of new releases for January 2023 is highlight by several new true crime docuseries (and one charmingly goofy animated hero).
The true crime docuseries fest gets started with Death in the Dorms on Jan. 5. That will be followed by How I Caught My Killer on Jan. 12, and Web of Death on Jan. 19. The first is a six-episode series that will follow the real life case of murders at UCLA, while the latter two will both present several different stories.
It’s not just all true crime in January for Hulu. Jan. 9 sees the arrival of Koala Man, an animated series that envisions an Australian crime fighter of the same name. Also premiering is season 2 of How I Met Your Mather (Jan. 24) and superhero drama Extraordinary (Jan.

With 15 years between releases, it was clear that the new Disney hit Disenchanted would have to make some casting changes concerning its youngest character. Recasts are nothing new in Hollywood, and children are often swapped out between sequels because they grew too old, or it was necessary to make the change to fit the story.
From horror sequels like Friday the 13th Part V to comedy franchises like National Lampoon's European Vacation, Disenchanted isn't the first flick to recast their kids. Though the history of film is filled with notable recasts, the replacement of key child characters has had a major impact on the films in question.

This isn't always the case, however.
