Garofalo on case for CBS pilot
Janeane Garofalo has been tapped to star in Barry Schindel's untitled drama pilot for CBS.

The project, from CBS Paramount Network TV and studio-based Scott Free Prods., follows the lives, relationships, cases and careers of a team of public defenders.

Garofalo will play the quirky, sassy head of the public defender's office who bears the scars of having made it in what is essentially a man's world.

Schindel penned the project -- a redeveloped version of Law Dogs, his 2003 pilot for NBC --and is executive producing with Scott Free's Ridley Scott, Tony Scott and David Zucker.

Garofalo's recent credits include NBC's The West Wing, Comedy Central's animated series Freak Show and the animated feature The Wild. She next will appear in the feature Southland Tales.

Garofalo is repaid by CAA and Generate.

'Freak' off to sluggish start for Comedy

'Freak' off to sluggish start for Comedy
South Park still is potent a decade into its run, but not enough to give Comedy Central's new series Freak Show a lift. Park opened the second half of its 10th season at 10 p.m. Wednesday with a healthy haul of 3.4 million viewers and 2.3 million in the 18-49 demographic. It was the series' biggest midseason launch since 2000. But Freak failed to retain much of its Park lead-in at 10:30 p.m. Only 1.5 million viewers stuck around, less than half of what Park attracted. Comedy Central has used the post-Park slot to launch a long list of series, including Drawn Together.
