The Mitchells Vs. the Machines Is Netflix's Biggest Animated Movie to Date

The Mitchells Vs. the Machines Is Netflix's Biggest Animated Movie to Date
The Mitchells Vs. The Machines has now become the biggest Netflix animated film on the streaming service. Netflix stated that the film was viewed by 53 million member households in its first 28 days. These numbers are higher than the 43 million that watched Over the Moon and the 38 million that watched The Willoughbys within the same timeframe.

The animated film, which comes from Sony Pictures Animation, is a big hit with both critics and audiences and that has translated to its viewing numbers on Netflix. The Mitchells Vs. the Machines comes from the minds of Lord and Miller, who have delivered several animated hits including Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse, The Lego Movie, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

The film centers around a dysfunctional family whose road trip is cut short after a smartphone takes over the world and begins sending robots to kidnap humans. It features an all-star comedic cast including Olivia Colman,

‘America’ Trailer: Channing Tatum Voices Foul-Mouthed George Washington in Netflix Comedy
Netflix has released a ridiculous trailer for its star-studded animated comedy “America: The Motion Picture,” which stars Channing Tatum as the voice of a beefed-up and vulgar George Washington in a satirical take on the American Revolution. The movie hails from “Archer” producer Matt Thompson, who directs a script by “Wonder Woman” writer Dave Callahan. With Tatum in an executive producer role alongside partner Reid Carolin as well as Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the wacky historical comedy is sure to be a hit with its target audience.

Here’s the official synopsis: “For, like, thousands of years, the origins of the United States of America have remained shrouded in mystery, lost to the sands of time. Who built this ‘country tis of thee,’ and why? Only the dinosaurs know… until now. For the first time in human history, the incredible, completely true story of America’s origins are revealed

‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines’ Review: Humor and Heart Drive Netflix’s Terrific Animated Film

‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines’ Review: Humor and Heart Drive Netflix’s Terrific Animated Film
One of the great modern animated comedies is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, a loopy adaptation of the famous children’s story. The 2009 adaptation took the picture book’s basic concept of food falling from the sky instead of rain and snow, and warped it in delightful fashion as a disaster-movie parody with a surprisingly […]

‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines’ Review: Lord and Miller’s Robot Apocalypse Lives Up to ‘Lego Batman’ and ‘Spider-Verse’

‘The Mitchells vs. the Machines’ Review: Lord and Miller’s Robot Apocalypse Lives Up to ‘Lego Batman’ and ‘Spider-Verse’
One minute your kid is born, and the next — almost literally, for some of us — you start to panic about that inevitable moment somewhere down the line when this helpless little blob creature isn’t going to need you anymore. As soon as they start to crawl you’re confronted with the cold reality that you’re teaching them how to get away from you. Independence is both the goal and the curse.

But while a certain amount of post-adolescent drift might be inevitable for anyone who doesn’t go full “Gilmore Girls,” the good news is that it’s never too late to close that gap. Not after the kid grows up. Not after the kid moves out. And, as it happens in the hyper-speed new animated family comedy from the producers behind “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” not even after the robot apocalypse.

‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ Sequel Sets 3 Directors
The sequel for “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” has set a trio of new directors for its animated sequel at Sony Pictures Animation. They are Joaquim Dos Santos, “One Night in Miami” Oscar-nominee Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.

They’ll take over from the trio of Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, whose film won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2018, though Ramsey is also returning to executive produce.

The original “Spider-Verse” film from 2018 was critically acclaimed for its animation style and story, which followed Shameik Moore as the voice of Miles Morales, who becomes the next Spider-Man and recruits the help of a lazier Peter Parker from another universe along with an array of other Spider-Men and even Spider-Pigs.

Returning as producers on the new “Spider-Verse” are Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Christina Steinberg. Alonzo Ruvalcaba will co-produce.

Oscars Preview: Can A Small, International Studio Or An Ambitious Streamer Topple The House Of Mouse In The Animated Feature Race?

Oscars Preview: Can A Small, International Studio Or An Ambitious Streamer Topple The House Of Mouse In The Animated Feature Race?
Since the inception of the Oscars’ Best Animated Feature category in 2001, the race has been utterly dominated by powerhouse American studios—the most notable examples being Walt Disney Studios and its Emeryville subsidiary, Pixar. Having claimed eight Oscars over the last decade, and 13 overall, these studios have become almost insurmountable over time.

This year, they once again pose fierce competition with two titles, the clear frontrunner being Pete Docter and Kemp Powers’ Soul. Meditating on the origins of the human personality, Docter’s follow-up to Oscar winners Up and Inside Out centers on Joe (Jamie Foxx), a frustrated middle-school band teacher, who seeks to return to Earth, after a sudden accident separates him from his body. Striving to return to New York City to realize his dreams of performing as a jazz musician, the character finds that his only way back from the celestial realm known as The Great Before is to mentor a stubborn,

New on Netflix: January 2021 Releases
The first month of a new year is a good time to make a new impression. And that’s just what Netflix seems set on doing with its list of new releases for January 2021.

The streamer is coming out strong with a third season of Cobra Kai, formerly of YouTube Premium. The next installment in Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence’s story is set to arrive…eventually. Netflix has not unveiled a released date yet but it will be during this month. While Cobra Kai is the highlight among Netflix’ original series, it’s not the only one by a long shot. Last year’s fun Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous returns for a second season on Jan. 22 and it will be accompanied by Fate: The Winx Saga. Also, if you’re a fan of things that will one day be .gif’ed to death, the Nicolas Cage-hosted History of Swear Words drops on Jan.

Hulu original film The Ultimate Playlist of Noise premieres on Jan. 15 and TV series Everyone is Doing Great arrives on Jan. 13.

Thankfully Hulu’s library titles are a bit livelier this month. Jan. 1 sees the arrival of Blade Runner: The Final Cut,
