A Zombie curse is placed upon a woman, which causes her to have living snakes inside her. Brujo, who is looking after her, attempts to take her to Los Angeles on the train. After several confrontations on the train, Brujo's collection of snakes manage to separate themselves from their owner and go on the hunt. Whilst all this is happening, normal, everyday passengers are relaxing, what is unknown to them is that something deadly is heading their way, and that there is no way out. Written by Vampiric
Snakes on a Train (2006)
** (out of 4)
Released three days to DVD before SNAKES ON A PLANE hit theaters, this "mockbuster" from The Asylum is actually a rare case for the studio where their rip is actually better than the movie it's taking advantage of. The incoherent story deals with some sort of voodoo or high priest guy planting snakes into a woman. The two (with her boyfriend) board a train and sure enough soon the snakes are out, attacking other passengers and more chaos follows. SNAKES ON A TRAIN is pure "C" movie material and that includes a story that never makes much sense. I wasn't a fan of SNAKES ON A PLANE because to me it was just a real piece of crap that pretended to be some sort of exploitation movie after internet buzz started to pick up. This film knows it's crap and I was surprised to see how much more exploitation this rip-off film actually offered. The filmmakers certainly knew what type of film they were making so they thankfully at least gave us some nudity, silly situations and of course plenty of violence and gore. I was pleasantly surprised to see how good the special effects actually were especially a few scenes where snakes enter people's bodies. I was pleased to see that these effects not only worked but there was plenty of the red stuff as well. The majority of the time real snakes are being used and this here helps the film. When the obvious CGI snakes are on screen they look horrible and this includes the bit at the end, which I won't ruin for those who will see the film. Performances are what you'd expect from a film like this. The one thing that doesn't work is that at 90-minutes the film drags on way too much and I think another problem is that there are way too many dialogue scenes that really bring the movie down. Often times we're sitting around watching characters talk about things we don't care about and you wonder why they don't just get back to the action. With that being said, SNAKES ON A TRAIN is pure trashy entertainment that shouldn't be taken serious.
