Commander Evans, U.S.N., is the expert on aviation in the navy. On his arrival with the fleet at Galveston, he goes to the Army and Navy Club where, as he is explaining his bomb-dropping aeroplane, a Mexican, who is a guest of the club, sneers at the project and is informed by Evans that he will show a practical demonstration on the aviation field that day. The scenes in the story are laid at Matamoras, in Mexico, and in Galveston, Texas. In Matamoras live the daughters of the Mexican envoy, who, a few years before, had been stationed in Washington as the representative of his country. On the outbreak of war and the death of the president of his country, he retired to his estates at Matamoras. A captain in the Mexican army, on the outbreak of war has allied himself virtually to both factions and when accused of being a traitor to both, the blow he strikes kills the envoy.
