A competent but not very memorable film
18 September 2009 | by ArgemalucoSee all my reviews

And When Did You Last See Your Father? is a typical British drama, which is interesting but at the same time affected and a bit predictable. The only reason I decided to watch this film was because of the cast, which did not only include the brilliant Colin Firth and Jim Broadbent, but also Gina McKee and Juliet Stevenson, two little-known but talented actresses. The final result was a competent but not highly memorable film.

The best element from this movie are the performances, which are brilliant. After Firth and Broadbent, my favourite performance came from Matthew Beard, who brings a very credible and natural performance.I hope to see this young actor on more movies.Anand Tucker (whose previous film Shopgirl quite liked me)'s direction is solid, because he tells the story with a slow, but never boring, tone.

Although it is not very memorable, I think I can give a recommendation to And When Did You Last See Your Father?, because I liked it after all.In summary, this movie is interesting and entertaining, but nothing too special on the whole.
