Gli eroi di Hogan

Modifica

Sommari

  • Hogan's assignment is to discover the secrets of a new bomb (the "Chicken Hawk") that seeks out radio signals, and think of a way to stop its manufacture.
  • Sgt Schultz enters hut 2 ordering a complete lock-down. Nobody is to go out, nor are they permitted to even look out of a window. Hogan still manages to convince Shultz to assign Newkirk the task of watching the windows from outside to ensure that nobody is peeking. Thus, he was able to determine that the Germans are unloading crates of something labeled chicken hawk. Later, the Heroes listen-in on General Burkhalter as he arranges for Klink to store the chicken hawk plans in his office safe. The general explains that it is a new bomb capable of targeting radio transmissions and is about to describe its operation when the signal from the office is lost. The only thing that Hogan is certain of at this point, is that the Allies will not want their enemy to possess such a weapon.—Harry Tumilson

Descrizione

  • At the start, Schultz is chasing the prisoners into the barracks. Schultz says that the men are not supposed to look out the window. When Hogan asks why, Schultz says that they are bringing in ...., then stops and says nothing. Hogan sends Newkirk out to see what is going on. He tells Schultz that he can watch the windows from the inside, and Newkirk will watch the windows from the outside. Schultz then says that they are expecting a V.I.P., a very important person, and says that Klink wants no shenanigans during this time. Newkirk sees crates being unloaded from a truck by German soldiers and taken to a warehouse next to the barracks. The crates are labeled 'huhnerhabicht' in German. Schultz leaves. Kinch says that 'huhner' in German means 'chicken', but not sure what 'habicht' means, so he looks it up in a dictionary. He says that 'habicht' means 'hawk' in German. Put together, these mean 'chickenhawk'. Hogan wants to know more. Since the microphone in Klink's office is not working and has not been replaced, Hogan tells Carter to grab some wild flowers and put them in a pot; they will put a microphone in the flowerpot and take it to Klink's office. After hearing that chickenhawks are being unloaded, Hogan thinks that they are the chickens.

Shortly later, Hogan goes to Klink's office with the flowers and flowerpot. There is a technician in the office working on Klink's safe. Klink says that Hogan will not get any information out of him. Hogan leaves the flowerpot on Klink's desk. General Burkhalter comes to STALAG 13. Klink tells him that the chickenhawks are here. Burkhalter says that he had a new lock put on Klink's safe. He then starts to describe the purpose of the chickenhawks. He says that they put an aiming device on the bombs to make them more accurate, a homing device that will home in on radio signals. While talking, Burkhalter has a sneezing fit; apparently he does not like the flowers in the flowerpot. He tells Klink to get rid of the flowers, so Klink opens the window and throws the flowerpot out the window, where it breaks when hitting the ground.

Up to this point, Hogan and the men were listening in on a speaker in the top shelf of Hogan's locker. Hogan wants to grab one of these chickenhawks to see what make it tick.

Hogan and the men go to the warehouse, and Hogan convinces Schultz to clean the warehouse. Klink and Burkhalter show up, and Burkhalter says that no one is allowed to go into the warehouse. Hogan and the men leave.

Later, Carter, Newkirk, LeBeau, and Kinch are setting up a platform for the VIPs, with Hogan supervising. Hogan says that the plans are in Klink's safe; he wants Newkirk to open the safe. They have changed the numbers, so Hogan will have to get Klink to show him the numbers.

Hogan goes to Klink's office with a story that there have been some thefts in the area recently, and wants Klink to put his watch in the safe. Someone stole a carving, cribbage pegs, and their pet mouse; Hogan does not want the thief to steal his watch. Klink refuses. Hogan then gives Klink the watch, he says that he wants Klink to have the watch, better him than some thief. Klink then goes to put the watch in the safe. Klink opens the safe, and Newkirk is looking through the window to see Klink dialing the numbers. Newkirk writes down the numbers and waits. Hogan needs to get Klink outside, so he asks him to inspect the landscaping. Hogan and Klink go outside briefly, while Newkirk goes in and tries to open the safe. Klink does not want to inspect the landscaping, so he and Hogan go back into Klink's office. They see Newkirk opening the safe.

Klink asks Hogan what Newkirk is doing there. Hogan says that Newkirk is trying to steal his watch. After some discussion, Hogan convinces Klink to leave Newkirk's punishment to Hogan and the men. Hogan takes Newkirk out, and has Newkirk say 'goodbye to the nice colonel'.

In the barracks, the men are talking about what to do now. Carter suggests sending in bombers; however, their barracks is next to the warehouse, and if the warehouse gets bombed their barracks will get bombed also. Hogan comes up with an idea, regarding the plans.

Later in the compound, Hogan walks up to Klink by the newly-built platform, followed by Kinch hauling a garbage can on a cart. Hogan gives Klink a paper for authorization to discipline Newkirk. Klink reads the paper, and is surprised that they want to shoot Newkirk, tomorrow at dawn. Hogan says that they will even pay Klink for the bullets. Klink says that we (the Germans) can shoot the prisoners, but you (the prisoners) can't. While they are talking, LeBeau, who is hiding in the garbage can, switches the roll of plans that Klink left on the platform with some fake plans. After hearing about the request for shooting Newkirk, Schultz thinks that that is terrible, worse then are own ...., pausing after seeing Klink look at him. Kinch rolls the garbage can to the barracks window, where LeBeau gives the plans to Newkirk, who then quickly takes pictures of the plans. After taking the pictures, Newkirk rolls the plans back up, and gives them to Carter, who is now in the garbage can. Hogan and Kinch then go back to the platform where Klink is still there, with a new revised punishment letter for Newkirk, giving him solitary confinement. While Klink is signing the letter, Carter switches the plans back.

Back in the barracks, Newkirk says that he will have the pictures developed in 10 minutes or so, and goes into a dark area, Hogan's locker, to develop the film. A coat is put over the openings at the top of the locker door to keep light from getting in. Just then, Klink comes in, very happy at something. He says that he has canceled all punishment for the rest of the day. He asks where Newkirk is, and Hogan says that he is in the locker, solitary confinement. Klink opens the door and lets Newkirk out of the locker, canceling the punishment for the day. He sees Newkirk doing something with a can, and asks what he is doing, Newkirk says that he is rinsing his socks. Klink restores all privileges, and leaves. The film is ruined.

Later, two staff cars and one other car arrive, carrying Burkhalter and other officers to watch the demonstration of the chickenhawks. Burkhalter says that cameras have been placed in the target areas, and radios have been removed from vehicles to prevent distractions.

While Burkhalter is talking, Carter puts a transmitter radio in a car, and Newkirk puts one in a backpack and throws it through the fence. Burkhalter orders the test started. A two-engine Heinkel is shown dropping bombs. The bombs do not drop where they are supposed to; one drops on a car, another one outside the fence, another one in another location. Klink wants the bomber to stop dropping the bombs. He goes to Burkhalter's car, which still has a radio, and calls to the plane to stop dropping bombs. Burkhalter yells at him to not use the radio, as the bombs home in on the transmitter signal. Klink suddenly realizes this, drops the microphone and runs off quickly. Just as he leaves, a bomb falls on the car and turns the car to a pile of junk. Hogan says to Burkhalter and the others that they will have this cleaned up in no time with a work detail. Then he says that they don't make cars like they used to. Burkhalter and Klink give him a nasty look.

At the end, Hogan comes to Klink's office, and asks for the watch back. He says that Newkirk says that he is sorry, and gave back the things that he stole, including the cribbage pegs and the mouse. The phone rings, Klink answers. It is Burkhalter calling; he says that the project is canceled. He has a list of damaged items, but his staff car is not on the list. Klink seems to think that Burkhalter wants Klink to pay for the staff car; Klink says that would be a long time on a colonel's pay. Hogan thanks Klink for keeping the watch and leaves.
