Rick And Morty: 5 Ways It's Similar To Community (& 5 Things It Does Differently)

However, that all changed when he got to create Community, a cult-hit comedy series about the trials and tribulations of college life. Sadly, Harmon would see the same rejection that plagued him for years and was removed even from his brainchild (though he'd return soon enough).

His other seminal series has been the Adult Swim giant, Rick and Morty, which has penetrated the zeitgeist as a sci-fi epic and gotten a lot of kids in trouble for staying up late. Given that they're from the same mind, it's a given that there are some similarities between the two Harmon works, but Rick and Morty has still done a lot to maintain its own identity.

Second 'Harmontown' Trailer: 'Community' Creator is in His Element

For several years now, the NBC comedy series "Community" has evaded cancellation like a ninja. It earned five seasons on the TV network after nearly getting canceled several times, and when they finally axed it before the sixth season, Yahoo Screen revived it at the last minute. And one of the reasons the show has gotten such a big cult following is because of series creator Dan Harmon. The writer and producer has become known for his cynicism and blunt attitude along with his hard work and clever writing. Now the documentary Harmontown has followed him on a podcast and live performance tour, complete with interviews with collaborators like Sarah Silverman, Jack Black, Joel McHale and many more. Watch! Harmontown Trailer: Dan Harmon’s Real Community

Harmontown Trailer: Dan Harmon’s Real Community
Here's a trailer for the movie Harmontown, the feature-length documentary about Community creator and borderline cult figure Dan Harmon, his various demons and neuroses, and the podcast he started — and tour he went on — after being fired from his own show. Harmon is a notoriously heavy drinker, a fact that's acknowledged several times in this teaser, and he's maybe not the most easy-to-work-with person in the world. "I'm his biggest fan," says Sarah Silverman, who worked with Harmon on The Sarah Silverman Program. "And I fired him."

You May Get Misty-Eyed Reading Sarah Silverman’s Note About Her Dead Dog, Duck
Sarah Silverman's 19-year-old Chihuahua-pug mix pup died this week. He often went by "Doug": "This is Doug. I found him in the trash," read Silverman's introduction of her dog on The Sarah Silverman Program. But he was her real dog, too, and she wrote a touching tribute to Duck on WhoSay:Duck “Doug” Silverman came into my life about 14 years ago. He was picked up by the State running through South Central with no collar, tags or chip. Nobody claimed or adopted him so a no-kill shelter took him in. That’s where I found him — at that shelter, in Van Nuys. Since then we have slept most every night together (and many lazy afternoons.) When we first met, the vet approximated his age at 5½ so I’d say he was about 19 as of yesterday, September 3, 2013. He was a happy dog, though serene. And stoic. And he

Sarah Silverman pays tribute to her late dog (and sometime co-star) Duck

Sarah Silverman pays tribute to her late dog (and sometime co-star) Duck
Sarah Silverman might be fresh off roasting James Franco, but she has a sensitive side too, as evidenced by the “obituary type thing” she posted Wednesday for her late dog Duck, who was put down over the weekend.

The comedian’s fans are very familiar with the chihuahua-pug mix, who appeared as her dog Doug on Comedy Central’s The Sarah Silverman Program. Silverman adopted Duck, who was estimated to be around 19 when he died, 14 years ago from a no-kill shelter in Van Nuys, California.

“Recently … he stopped eating or drinking,” she wrote in the heartfelt post. “He was skin and bones and so weak.

Dan Harmon's 'Rick and Morty' gets series order from Adult Swim

"Community" creator Dan Harmon will be back on TV with a new series ... in about a year.

Harmon's Adult Swim project, "Rick and Morty," has been picked up to series, Deadline reports. The animated show, which he co-created with Justin Roiland, will premiere late next year or in early 2014.

The show follows the adventures of a brilliant inventor and his less bright grandson. Adult Swim announced it was ordering a pilot at its upfront in May -- around the same time Harmon was let go from "Community."

Harmon and Roiland have worked together several times in the past, notably on Channel 101 and its VH1 offshoot, "Acceptable.TV." Roiland also acted in several episodes of "The Sarah Silverman Program."

In addition to "Rick and Morty," Harmon also has comedy projects in development at CBS and Fox.

New Film Goes Inside 'The Channel 101 Experience' (Video)

Nearly 10 years ago, before sites such as YouTube, Funny or Die, and College Humor started curating funny videos and giving exposure to unknown talent online, Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab created Channel 101. The monthly festival showcases short films, in the format of television pilots that are five minutes or less in length, and tells the audience to decide which five shows will be “picked up” for another episode to screen at the next month’s event. At the same time that early Channel 101 creations like “House of Cosbys” and “Yacht Rock” turned into viral hits, projects created by or featuring stars like Jack Black, Drew Carey, Sarah Silverman, Andy Samberg, Aziz Ansari, and Rob Huebel began to garner more mainstream attention. As a result, many of the other writers, actors, and filmmakers who have screened their work at Channel 101 have been hired to write and perform on network sitcoms,

NBC has ordered a pilot for a comedy script with Sarah Silverman as the main star.

The pilot will star Silverman as a woman readjusting to single life following a decade long live-in relationship. That sounds like her real life a little bit maybe?

I think Sarah is pretty funny actually. Did any of you watch her on The League this past week? That was hilarious!

So what do you all think? What's your favorite Sarah moment? Who here thinks she is a terrible Comedian/Actress? I would love some feedback.

Monster Director Patty Jenkins to Helm Thor 2 For Marvel; Where Has She Been?

Monster Director Patty Jenkins to Helm Thor 2 For Marvel; Where Has She Been?
Patty Jenkins, who wrote and directed Charlize Theron in her powerhouse Oscar-winning performance in Monster (pictured in the 2004 Richard Avedon photo), will be the first woman to direct a superhero movie: Thor 2. Marvel tends to choose idiosyncratic directors, from Jon Favreau (Iron Man) and Kenneth Branagh (Thor) to Joss Whedon (The Avengers). Jenkins still seems an odd choice for a franchise comic movie, given that she is known for gritty indie Monster and TV credits such as The Killing pilot and Entourage, Arrested Development and The Sarah Silverman Program. See the Monster trailer below--we've been waiting for her to direct another film for eight years--but we'll take what we can get. In Theron's Oscar acceptance speech the first person she thanked was her "incredible director."

[1] NBC has won the bidding war for a new comedy series by Sarah Silverman, beating out competing networks ABC and Fox. Also on board with the project is Ron Howard, who has been "deeply involved" with the show's development, and his Imagine Entertainment partner Brian Grazer. Worth noting: The last time Grazer and Howard collaborated on a single-camera network comedy series, the result was Arrested Development. I'll be keeping an eye on this one. [The Hollywood Reporter [3]] After the jump, a Daily Show writer plays with Henson puppets, a Sopranos actor returns to organized crime, and Clone Wars' fourth season gets a trailer.
