With the saboteur and murderer revealed and arrested, peace should now be restored, but a new threat emerges - a war-monger who's both ready and eager to aggress upon other worlds with a newly manufactured warrior army.
The 18th season starts with a darker tone - or at least comparatively so. The previous season was pretty mixed and at times a bit too silly for its own good. While I liked the light humor generally, I must concede that when it comes to something common like weak special effects, I was less bothered by the Foamasi here due to the story being good, as opposed to rolling my eyes out of my head over the flair-wearing minotaur in the previous serial. So, while not 'dark' it does feel more serious and interested in telling a story and having ideas in there. For some reason though, it opens with the (literal) shock of seeing K9 kill himself chasing a ball into the sea.
From here we move to a leisure planet to find the lizard species Foamasi returning from the wasteland left of the planet; the Argolins survive inside (such as they are) and use the planet as an education and vacation spot for others. While the green lizards are suggested as the villains throughout, there is more going on with the Argolins and those around them - and it here where the plot has some legs. The technology and some of the cliffhangers perhaps allows for some mockery but generally it is a solid serial which opens the season well.
