There aren't many people in Hollywood cooler than the affable and self-deprecating Anna Kendrick.
So in the name of work, Digital Spy scoured the internet for all things Kendrick-related, and the end result is a compilation of various facts about the 5'2" actress that you may not have previously known. And yes, one is 'Cups'-related.
1. Anna Kendrick was born in Portland, Maine on August 9, 1985. Her mother is an insurance accountant, her father was a history teacher before moving to finance as well, and her older brother Michael once appeared in a 2000 independent film named Looking for an Echo. The family has English, Irish and Scottish ancestry.
2. What were you doing at the age of 12? For Kendrick, she was starring in Broadway musical High Society and impressed so much that she bagged a Tony Award nomination, becoming the second-youngest nominee ever at the time. But despite the achievement, she was never one to brag.

No, you don't get to see Anna Kendrick's boobs, but for fans of her performance dubbed Cups (a unique cover of the song You're Gonna Miss Me by Lulu and the Lampshades) from the film Pitch Perfect, this should still be a treat. Fans have enjoyed Kendrick's voice and spirited performance of the song with a little cup choreography that it was turned into a full fledged song with some instrumentals this time, and now there's a music video to go along with it (though there are no direct ties to the film other than the song itself). But the best part of this story is that Universal has confirmed Pitch Perfect 2 for release in 2015. Here's the official music video for Anna Kendrick's Cups from Pitch Perfect via The Playlist: The news comes straight from CinemaCon, where our own Alex Billington is stationed in Las Vegas, and it...

From movie to radio single to music video, Anna Kendrick's "Cups," her a cappella hit from last year's "Pitch Perfect," has become a cultural entity of its own. In the film, Kendrick's Beca sings the song "When I'm Gone," a cover of Lulu and the Lampshades' "You're Gonna Miss Me," along with the band's now-famous cup-slap technique. In the video Kendrick doesn't play Beca from "Pitch Perfect"'s Beca, but is a young girl stuck working in a small town diner dreaming of escaping. While looking up at travel posters, Kendrick rolls out dough and cuts out circles with, of course, a cup -- cute and clever, but a bit saccharine. But no, the cups don't stop there! The original a cappella track, now accompanied by a Mumford and Sons-esque guitar, plays as a flour-covered Kendrick sings and walks around the restaurant while every customer does the little cup jig.

Roky Erickson isn't gone. But for much of his adult life, he was mostly so.
The legendary Austin rocker's life is a harrowing story and cautionary tale encompassing everything from family drama to drug war politics. The frenetic front man for the pioneering psychedelic Austin band The 13th Floor Elevators in the 1960s, Roger Kynard "Roky" Erickson was busted for marijuana possession in 1969. He entered an insanity plea and found himself an inmate at the Rusk State Hospital, a mental institution where he spent three years in the company of violently mentally ill offenders. One of the more memorable scenes from "Pitch Perfect" is when Anna Kendrick performs the song "You're Gonna Miss Me," complete with the cup percussion technique used by Lulu and the Lampshades. And it turns out, she had mastered that particular skill on her own, and it was added into the film because she could do it. So, of course, when she was on "Late Show," David Letterman pulled out a plastic cup.
Of course, she obliged him and proved she still knew both the words to the song, and the proper motions with the cup. Impressed, Letterman coaxed his audience into giving her a standing ovation for the impromptu performance.
And Kendrick is getting rave reviews for "Pitch Perfect" as well. The film is expanding nationwide, while "Late Show with David Letterman" is on CBS every weeknight at 11:35 p.m. Et.

"Ready, Set, Fund," is a column about crowdfunding and related fundraising endeavors for Austin and Texas independent film projects.
With SXSW looming on the horizon to take over Austin for 11 days next month, it seems an appropriate time to feature crowdfunding for local film projects centered around music and performance. One such project, Two-Headed Dog, is seeking funding on IndieGoGo through February 22. This documentary centers around local rock legend Roky Erickson, who is about to embark on a tour for the first time ever through Australia and New Zealand with his son Jegar Erickson and his band. (Local film fans who like cable access might remember Jegar's Austin Movie Show, which ran 2004-2007.)
Local filmmaker Mike Mann, who premiered his short doc Brewed at SXSW 2011, has been invited to document Erickson's tour Down Under. However, Mann is in need of funds to cover his travel expenses as well as production costs at Erickson's live shows.

Kix Brooks, half of the popular country-music duo Brooks & Dunn, says he and longtime partner Ronnie Dunn are both ready to break up their act.
They launch their farewell tour next week, a week that will begin with the last performance they ever might make together on the Academy of Country Music Awards. CBS airs the 45th annual ceremony Sunday, Apr. 18, and fans can vote for which of their trademark songs Brooks & Dunn will perform -- from "Brand New Man" to "You're Gonna Miss Me."
Named top vocal duo (or vocal duo or group of the year) at the Acm Awards for 16 of the 19 years they've performed together, Brooks & Dunn are up for the top-duo honor again. "We had no intention of playing on the show this year," Brooks tells Zap2it. "Other people could use the break, but it seemed like kind of a fun idea (the Academy of Country Music) came up with.

I missed this one at SXSW and Toronto, which seems to be a mantra of mine no matter how many films I see at these festivals, but I'm very interested. I thought Keven McAlester's last film "You're Gonna Miss Me" was sort of awesome, a look at rock icon Roky Erickson and his long struggle with mental illness. And there's no doubt that the subject matter of people who are wrapped up in the world of "Dungeons & Dragons" is potentially ripe for the right filmmaker. I'm curious about tone and about how much respect he does or doesn't pay to these people, and...

One of my favorite things about film festivals is the chance you'll have at seeing something that you'd probably never come across otherwise when you visit the multiplex or browse your rental queue. When the Toronto International Film Festival schedule was released last month and I saw Keven McMcAlester's documentary about Dungeons & Dragons gamemasters, The Dungeon Masters, listed, I knew I had to see it. It wasn't that I'd seen Keven's earlier documentary about Roky Erickson, You're Gonna Miss Me, and wanted to see this, nor did I want to see what fine cinematography Lee Daniel had crafted for the movie. No, I wanted to see this one for the geek in me. H ...

You're Gonna Miss Me

Palm Pictures
NEW YORK -- The latest in what apparently has become a minitrend of documentaries about musicians suffering from mental illness (Brian Wilson, Daniel Johnston), You're Gonna Miss Me chronicles the troubled life and career of Roky Erickson. The frontman for the highly influential psychedelic rock group the 13th Floor Elevators, Erickson has spent the past few decades in a downward spiral of drug addiction, incarceration and mental illness, including a long stint at an institution in which he was subjected to crippling electric-shock treatments.
Filmmaker Keven McAlester chronicles the story in reasonably effective fashion, even if there's an occasional slapdash quality to this effort that reduces its overall impact. It doesn't help matters that its subject, who has recently resumed performing, is not quite a singular musical genius on the order of Johnston.
This story, however, does boast a galvanizing familial drama, pitting Erickson's mother -- who for years refused him medical treatment (not, as the film makes clear, without some good reasons) in favor of a religious approach -- against his younger brother, who gained custody over him a few years ago.
There's an undeniable fascination to watching the extensive footage of Erickson, whose yowling, manic vocals on display in the extensive archival performance footage contrasts dramatically with scenes of him in more recent times, ambling about in a bathrobe while clutching a Mr. Potato Head.

- Despite what they say - drugs and rock n' roll don't always make for a suitable match. Now making it two buys this week, Palm Pictures has grabbed another music-related doc for distribution – this time picking up the rockumentary You're Gonna Miss Me.Nominated for Best doc at the recent Independent Spirit Awards, filmmaker Keven McAlester's feature debut tells the tale of rock n roll pioneer Roger Kynard "Roky" Erickson, whose band the 13th Floor Elevators coined the term "psychedelic rock" in the 60's. Struggling with drug abuse and schizophrenia, he spent 3 years in Rusk State Hospital after pleading insanity on marijuana charges. His new band, Roky Erickson and the Aliens managed to stay vital during the 70's with a darker and more aggressive rock sound. After losing interest in music, he became a recluse, living in poverty and filth. The movie details the rise and fall of

Palm picks up 'Miss Me' rights
NEW YORK Palm Pictures has nabbed North American rights to the Independent Spirit Award-nominated rockumentary You're Gonna Miss Me.
Keven McAlester's feature debut chronicles the live of 60s psychedelic rock pioneer Roky Erickson from the band The 13th Floor Elevators, including his drug addiction and schizophrenia. Palm owner Chris Blackwell said he plans a theatrical release this summer and a retail home video release shortly thereafter.
In a complicated deal, Netflix's Red Envelope bought DVD rights from the producers, then sold retail DVD rights to Palm while retaining Netflix DVD rights. The two companies will be collaborating on the DVD, producing it together and releasing it simultaneously to retail outlets and Netflix subscribers
Palm simultaneously brokered a deal directly for the theatrical and several non-theatrical rights, including second window television. Sundance Channel and Showtime acquired first window television rights.
The film was produced by Adrienne Gruben, McAlester, Lauren Hollingsworth, D.W. Harper and Laura Boyd DeSmeth.
The Palm theatrical deal was brokered for the filmmakers by Josh Braun of Submarine and Roger Kass of RingTheJing Entertainment, and its DVD deal was negotiated with Red Envelope Entertainment head Bahman Naraghi.
