Storyline

SG-1 learns that the whereabouts of Merlin's weapon (which should be able to defeat the Ori) is most likely on Atlantis, Daniel and Vala visit Earth's base team there. Meanwhile, its scientific top brain Dr. Rodney McKay is detailed back on the Odyssey with Lt. Colonels Sam Carter and Cam Mitchell, who are trying to reroute the super-Stargate through which they fear the Ori are about to send reinforcement ships, despite the danger of using nuclear explosions so close to a black hole. Daniel gets answers from the database, but figures out they don't come through a hologram but from an ascended Ancient: Morgan le Fay! Written by KGF Vissers

Trivia

The background music when Odyssey approaches Atlantis for the first time is a variation on the Stargate: Atlantis (2004) theme. See more »

Goofs

At about 15 minutes when Teal'c is communicating with the Odyessy while it is near the black hole, Teal'c s voice is lower pitched supposedly by the time dilation, but the communication back to Teal'c from the Odyessy is also lower pitched and slowed. Because Teal'c is not near the black hole and not affected by the time dilation, his voice received at the Odyessy should be sped up when received, and only then affected by the time dilation in reverse. Eight "Ba-al" in Side Ori Pocket, Wrath on a Wraith!
16 July 2014 | by XweAponXSee all my reviews

I always thought those Ori ships looked like Pool Tables. Well, here in this Ep, Carter and Mitchell with the help of Rodney Mackay sink one into the side pocket, and snatch a Wraith-Ship-Boobie-Prize on the way out.

Back then, I was mostly P'd off that Sci-Fi had sunk Farscape in order to elongate Stargate SG-1, and I was non-plussed when Ben Browder and Claudia Black magically showed up. But now that I have seen all of their Stargate Eps, this was a smart move, and they fit right in, Claudia being perfect to bounce off of Mike Shanks- And bounce she does.

But the magic of this episode is the magic of connecting two shows and two galaxies: Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis. If only there had been more crossovers like this, and there were in fact many crossover Eps. But this is possibly the best combined Ep of SG-1 and Atlantis that ever was.

As SG-1 arrives in the Pegasus Galaxy, the one thing that stands out is the magnificent image of Atlantis from the spaceship "Odyssey's" Bridge, you can see the full production value of the SG-1 Matte Painters and Digital Artists, who were just a few notches higher than Atlantis- Not to infer that Atlantis was done badly, but SG-1 had grown as a series and so they had the digital and Matte shots perfected, while it took Atlantis a few years to "rise up" to that level of quality.

That said, this story is a two-headed giant: While Vala (Claudia Black) and Daniel have a Tete-A-Tete with what they initially think is the Atlantis "Teaching Hologram" - Mitchell (Browder) and Carter drag Rodney Mackay off with them in the Oddysey so they can ignite one of the Ori's "SuperStarGates"- So they head out to the first black hole accretion disk they can find and start lobbing bombs through a regular Mini-Stargate to try to fire up the Superdupergate.

Teal'c has carefully chosen his donuts while he waits in the Milky Way for the bombs to show up, so now, we have a perfect 360 from Pegasus to Stargate Command to Teal'c and back to Pegasus via Teal'c. But the discussion can only travel one way because of the black hole! So Dr Weir (Torri Higgens) has to call Stargate Command who has to call Teal'c who can then call up the Odyssey - To tell em a Wraith ship is on the way!

Even if I had not said, you know there would have been a Wraith ship on the way, because they always show up.

Well - This episode cleverly disposes of both Wraith and Ori ships, and crimp the Ori's Galactic Domination plans until the end of the season - And all it took was One 8-Ball into the Side Ori Pocket!

Possibly the best written episode of the series, and I did not even hit on Daniel and Vala's adventures in Holography.
