Sebastian Stan's career has seen him grow from having small roles in major movies to becoming a supporting player who steals the show to a legitimate star in some of Hollywood's biggest blockbusters. After appearing in films like The Covenant and The Education of Charlie Banks, Stan broke out with a recurring role on Gossip Girl as Carter Baizen, followed by parts in Once Upon a Time and Political Animals. It was in 2011 that he landed the role that changed his life going forward, portraying Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger, a character he's still playing today.
Based on his recent projects, Stan appears to be fighting his MCU image. Though he is set to reprise his role as Bucky Barnes in Thunderbolts*, he is also receiving acclaim for recent performances like The Apprentice and A Different Man. Of note, Stan made appearances in critically-acclaimed movies like Black Swan and Black Panther,...

Long before Jesse Eisenberg and Sebastian Stan both earned 2025 Golden Globe Awards nominations, the pair appeared together in an indie coming-of-age drama that marked the directorial debut of rocker Fred Durst.
The Education of Charlie Banks hit theaters in 2009 starring Eisenberg as Charlie, an Ivy League freshman who is troubled when high school bully Mick (Jason Ritter) mysteriously resurfaces and inserts himself into Charlie’s life in upstate New York.
Filmmaker Peter Care (The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys) was initially attached to direct Peter Elkoff’s script, which was based on the writer’s autobiographical experiences. Ultimately landing in the director’s chair was Durst, who had become an MTV fixture in the late 1990s as the frontman for rap-metal band Limp Bizkit. Durst has cited Matt Dillon’s role in the 1980 feature My Bodyguard as an inspiration for The Education of Charlie Banks, which co-stars Stan as Charlie’s charming college buddy Leo,...

Sebastian Stan recently revealed that he came close to landing the role of Captain James T. Kirk in director J.J. Abrams' 2009 Star Trek reboot. The casting process for Kirk was under a considerable amount of scrutiny at the time, considering how iconic William Shatner's portrayal of Kirk was. The coveted role would eventually go to Chris Pine, which catapulted the actor into stardom. Stan would find massive success two years later with his role as 'Bucky Barnes' in Captain America: The First Avenger.
During an appearance on Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz to promote his two new films the Donald Trump biopic, The Apprentice, and the black comedy/thriller, A Different Man, Stan was asked if he missed out on any big roles that could have "changed everything." Stan responds that he was close to getting Kirk, going as far as shooting a screentest for Paramount Pictures.

Fred Durst, of Limp Bizkit fame, has ventured into indie films with impressive performances in "I Saw the TV Glow" and "Y2K." Despite his music career, Durst has directed films such as "The Fanatic" and continues to make music with Limp Bizkit. Durst's acting talent shines through in his varied roles, hinting at a potential future in more film and TV projects.
Believe it or not, Fred Durst is still making music, and he's added something else to his artistic portfolio as well. There are a few ways people may know the name Fred Durst. Most notably, he's the lead singer of the controversial nu-metal band Limp Bizkit. Others may know him as the man Eminem rapped about on "Slim Shady" when the Detroit artist said he wanted to sit next to Durst and Carson Daly. Still, younger people may only recognize Durst from his wild appearance in the Woodstock '99 documentary.

It’s been a rough few weeks for indies but May is here with a handful of hopefuls looking to rev up the market — from A24’s buzzy I Saw The TV Glow to Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Venice award-winning Evil Does Not Exist. A documentary about Anita Pallenberg featuring Scarlett Johansson hits theaters, with a French animated sci-fi set on Mars, and a Flannery O’Conner biopic by Ethan Hawke.
I Saw The TV Glow is written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun (We’re All Going To The World’s Fair) and produced by Emma Stone under her Fruit Tree Banner. The horror-thriller that gripped Sundance (Deadline review called it a “trippy gut punch”) then SXSW follows a teenager named Owen trying to make it through life in the suburbs. The weirdness starts when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show, a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own.

Exclusive: Brooklyn-based filmmaker Ged Dickersin (Coda) is launching True Indy, a production company intent on making films that can and should be made independently, with filmmakers telling acutely relevant stories for the world market.
True Indy sees the opportunity to attract financing for films that can be made in the $1 million-$5 million range, reducing the financial risk to investors and increasing the chances for a return on the investment. The company is introducing its slate of original U.S.-born indies at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin, as well as looking to partner with filmmakers from around the world in international co-productions.
“Independent filmmaking has developed so much, with budgets that exceed what the new world market can return, making it difficult for private equity to support the independents,” Dickersin said. “Coming out of the pandemic and the strikes, the cost of making a film has inflated drastically,...

Exclusive: Peter Elkoff has joined newly ordered ABC/20th Television drama series Alaska, headlined by Hilary Swank, as executive producer and showrunner. For the past two seasons, the seasoned TV writer-producer served as executive producer and co-showrunner on another 20th TV drama series, Fox’s The Resident. Fellow exec producer/co-showrunner Andrew Chapman will be the sole showrunner for the medical drama’s upcoming sixth season.
Alaska, created by Spotlight filmmaker Tom McCarthy, who wrote and directed the pilot, emerged as an early front-runner at ABC this pilot season, making the search for a showrunner a big priority for the studio. '90s rock sensation and Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst recently appeared with a strange new look at the 2021 Lollapalooza music festival and has since been trending on the internet. Durst stepped on the stage rocking a head full of silver hair with a handlebar mustache and red aviators. It's the same look the singer teased his fans with on Instagram earlier last week. While many initially believed that Durst was trolling and wearing a wig or something, it turns out he wasn't. So far, it looks like those hair are his own and this weird new look is here to stay. You can check out the pictures below.
Fred Durst had been previously sporting a full beard and the signature backward baseball cap. His appearance has varied throughout the years, but this one takes the cake. And as expected, fans were caught by surprise at the controversial singer's latest transformation.

Sobini Films, the production company behind soon-to-released Shields Green biopic Emperor, said it will donate $1 for every digital transaction during the first month of film’s release to the NAACP. Set for a digital release on August 18, via Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, the film is based on the inspiring journey of Green, an American freedom fighter who escaped from slavery and joined the raid on Harper’s Ferry, the key battle of the abolitionist movement which helped spark the beginning of the Civil War and alter the course of American history. “All too often vital narratives, such as Emperor, are left out of Hollywood and our history books,” said Robin Harrison, director, NAACP Hollywood Bureau. “The NAACP is inspired by this portrayal of a true American hero and grateful for the opportunity to put the proceeds from the movie to use in our modern-day fight against systemic racism and racial injustice.

Aside from fronting Limp Bizkit – that nu metal band most people don’t want to admit they moshed to in high school – Fred Durst has also branched out into directing indie films, first with the drama The Education of Charlie Banks (2007), then with the sports film The Longshots (2008), and now with psycho thriller The Fanatic, which he allegedly based on a real-life experience with a stalker. Judging from this movie, it must have left a mark. Sporting a ridiculous mullet, John Travolta plays Moose, a lonely film fan who idolizes horror movie star Hunter Dunbar. After...

Write what you know, they say. But because Fred Durst once had a bad experience with a stalker, we now get the rank human patty that is the Limp Bizkit frontman and sometime director’s latest indulgence “The Fanatic,” a celebrity-terrorizing scenario that wants to be “Misery” but only creates misery.
Durst didn’t necessarily embarrass himself 10 years ago when he released his directorial debut, the admirably sensitive college drama “The Education of Charlie Banks”; he didn’t write the film, nor did his effort suggest hidden reserves of cinematic promise. “The Fanatic,” however, which Durst did have a hand in writing, is a brainless, exploitative folly which gives John Travolta free rein to mine the history of cringe-worthy autism portrayals for an offensively garish Frankenstein pantomime of unhinged obsession. It ultimately suggests this side-career of Durst’s should be well and truly snuffed out.

As two former teen idols, both John Travolta and Devon Sawa know a thing or two about obsessive superfans. The two pair up in “The Fanatic,” a dramatic thriller about a middle-aged man whose obsession with a celebrity action star becomes dangerously intense. Travolta recently made waves with an unhinged performance as New York City mobster John Gotti in 2018’s “Gotti,” directed by “Entourage” star Kevin Connolly. Now he’s working with another unexpected director: former Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst.
Per the official synopsis: “Moose is a rabid movie fan who is obsessed with his favorite celebrity action hero, Hunter Dunbar (Devon Sawa). When he is cheated out of his opportunity to finally meet Hunter, Moose gets a little help from his friend Leah (Ana Golja), a well-connected paparazzi photographer, who knows how to find celebrity homes. John Travolta will soon star in the stalker movie The Fanatic from Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, and a photo of the actor in character has made its way online. Just recently retitled, the movie was originally intended to be called Moose, which comes from the name of Travolta's lead character. In addition to directing the movie, Durst co-wrote the screenplay with Dave Bekerman. Principal photography was completed in Alabama, and the project is currently in post-production. Vmi will be handling sales of the thriller, and a release date has yet to be set.
Apparently, Fred Durst was inspired to make The Fanatic based on his real-life encounter with an obsessive fan who began stalking him. In the movie, Travolta will be playing a cinephile named Moose, who's perhaps a bit too obsessed with action movie star Hunter Dunbar. What begins with stalking the celebrity grows increasingly more dangerous as...

Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst is currently directing a new film in Alabama called Moose. The movie is inspired by a real-life story of a fan that was stalking Durst years ago.
John Travolta stars in the film as Moose, who is a "rabid movie fan obsessed with his favorite celebrity action hero." That action hero is played by Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Slc Punk). "As Moose’s obsession grows stronger, his fixation turns from stalking to ambition of destroying the star’s life — a story inspired by a real-life fan who stalked Durst many years ago."
This sounds like it will be an interesting movie. This seems like a different kind of role for Travolta to take on and it's great to see Devon Sawa land a solid role in a movie!
Durst previously directed The Longshots and The Education of Charlie Banks, both of which were decent films,...

A whole mess of factors goes into what projects a director takes on. A young up-and-comer might be happy just to get his first directing credit, regardless of what it might actually be about. A director who's been around the block might pick up a project way outside of their wheelhouse just for the experience. And the promise of a couple bucks doesn't hurt, either.
In other words, sometimes you just can't pin a filmmaker down. Here are some rather odd and unexpected director-movie pairings.
1. Sidney Lumet, 'The Wiz' (1978)
Between "12 Angry Men," "Network," "Dog Day Afternoon" and "Serpico," it's fair to call the late Sidney Lumet an all-time great. But considering most of Lumet's career was dedicated to crime and drama, "The Wiz," a musical "The Wizard of Oz" adaptation set in Harlem (and, later, Oz), is a definite oddball in his canon. Starring such powerhouses of African-American culture as Michael Jackson,...

Last year we heard that former Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst was looking to continue his low key career behind movie cameras (after directing The Longshots and The Education of Charlie Banks) with a dark comedy called Pawn Shop Chronicles starring Paul Walker. It sounded pretty outlandish following multiple interconnected stories centered around a missing wedding ring which leads to a wild-goose chase involving meth addicts, skinheads and an Elvis impersonator. But the project never came together, and now the film is in the hands of Wayne Kramer (Running Scared, The Cooler) with one huge ensemble cast. Though it doesn't sound like Paul Walker is involved anymore in the report from Deadline, plenty of names have surfaced in his place including Brendan Fraser, Elijah Wood, Matt Dillon, Vincent D'Onofrio, Thomas Jane, Chi McBride, Lukas Haas, Pell James, Kevin Rankin, D.J. Qualls, Michael Cudlitz, Norman Reedus and Ashlee Simpson. That's quite...

The feeling inside ICM is that talent agent Joanne Wiles had repped Eisenberg “as well as can be” including “doing an incredible job getting him that part” as Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network. Among his pics have been The Squid And The Whale, The Education of Charlie Banks, Adventureland, and Zombieland. She also recently negotiated several “huge...

Actress Eva Amurri and former soccer star Kyle Martino had a sweet Southern wedding in South Carolina over the weekend. Martino is a former pro soccer player turned commentator on Espn, while Amurri is known for roles in "Californication," "Saved!" and "The Education of Charlie Banks."
Amurri's mom Susan Sarandon hosted the wedding, along with her former partner Tim Robbins (the longtime couple broke up in 2009 after 23 years together). Anti-death penalty advocate Sister Helen Prejean performed the ceremony. If you'll recall, Sarandon won an Oscar for her role as Prejean in the Robbins-directed drama "Dead Man Walking." Amurri played Prejean at the age of 9.
Amurri told InStyle in January that she was working on a book "about how overwhelming being engaged is for a modern woman … I realized once I got engaged, that everyone is overwhelmed, but nobody talks about it. I'm going to try and write this book as...

[1] Our last couple editions of TV Bits have been filled with mostly good news, but today's is more of a downer, what with shows getting axed, a guy getting hurt, and, well, do you consider a Fred Durst sitcom bad news? At least AMC has some nice things to offer, including a new trailer for Hell on Wheels and some intriguing dramas in the works. After the jump: Charlie's Angels and Memphis Beat get cancelled Olivia Wilde leaves House Transporter star Chris Vance gets injured Fred Durst signs a deal with CBS Hell on Wheels gets a new trailer Earlier this week, ABC gave full-season orders to its freshman shows Suburgatory and Revenge, but the new crop isn't all winners. The network has just given the axe to the Charlie's Angels reboot, which premiered to low ratings and never quite recovered. ABC will air the remaining four episodes which have already been shot.

Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst has long complained that people have treated him like a music industry joke, a punch line to the question, "Seriously, what's with that dude in the backward red baseball cap?"
But the nu-metal maestro may have the final laugh thanks to a deal he recently signed with CBS and CBS TV Studios to develop a half-hour sitcom. According to Deadline Hollywood, Durst will star in and produce the untitled show, which has a not-ready-for-primetime working title that perfectly fits the "Nookie" singer's self-deprecating image: "Douchebag."

The infamous rap metal front man has signed on to star in a comedy TV series, which although untitled is rumored to be called Douchebag and focus on a rock star trying to balance fame with family life. Fred Durst has signed a deal with CBS to produce and star in the half hour TV series, which centers around a rock legend looking for balance between his high profile lifestyle and trying to raise a family. The tentatively titled Douchebag is written by Matthew Carlson (Mr. Sunshine). Limp Bizkit have a new song from their latest effort actually titled 'Douchebag' as well. The singer just released another Limp Bizkit studio album 'Gold Cobra' (read my review Here) and has directed two feature films in the past including The Education of Charlie Banks and The Longshots. Under the pact, he has partnered with CBS TV Studios-based producers Eric and Kim Tannenbaum on a half-hour comedy project, which he will star in and produce. The idea was brought to the Tannenbaum Co. by Durst’s manager/producer John Schneider who will serve as a non-writing producer. We caught up for a chat with Oscar-nominated actor Jesse Eisenberg to talk about Holy Rollers, out this week, and much, much more...
Back in February, on the day before the BAFTAs, we had the chance to speak with Best Actor nominee, Jesse Eisenberg. He'd been nominated for his stunning performance as Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, but the interview was in anticipation of Eisenberg's starring role in another, much smaller film, which is out this week. Produced on a shoestring budget, Holy Rollers retells the real-life story of a group of Hassidic Jews, who operate a drug smuggling operation in late-90s New York.
We spoke with Eisenberg (who's every bit as hyperactive, nervously energetic, and smart as his on-screen turns would have you believe) about Holy Rollers, working with directors from Wes Craven to Fred Durst, and whether we should expect Zombieland 2 anytime soon...

Prison Break star Wentworth Miller has been newsworthy of late because he wrote the script for Stoker, which Park Chan-wook will direct with stars Mia Wasikowska, Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman. Now he has booked a new role, taking the lead in an indie called Analog, which Mike Million wrote and will direct. The script has been around for a few years -- it hit the Black List in 2005 -- and follows " an introverted genius who tries to find a love connection in an increasingly digital world." I'm picturing Pi as a romantic comedy, but that probably isn't quite right. [Variety [1]] After the break, Paul Walker makes a deal with Fred Durst. Will former Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst eventually be remembered more as a film director than as a rap-rock clown? It could happen. Oft-dismissed a few years back thanks to his music career, the guy has become a promising...

While much of the populace still harbors residual resentment and ill-will towards musician/filmmaker Fred Durst for his rap-rock tresspasses and early aughts omnipresence, the Limp Bizkit frontman has undeniably contributed to modern cinema in a film that is already being considered a contemporary classic How's that? Well, Fred Durst directed, and further-boosted the career of, Jesse Eisenberg in his filmmaking debut "The Education Of Charlie Banks" in 2007. While Eisenberg was already ostenibly "discovered" in 2005 by Noah Baumbach for his breakout turn in The Squid In The Whale," the major difference is that Durst is friends with director David…...

In addition Paul Walker (The Fast and the Furious, Running Scared) will star in the film which has multiple interconnected stories centered around a missing wedding ring which leads to a wild-goose chase involving meth addicts, skinheads and an Elvis impersonator. That sounds like a big bag of crazy to me. Jordan Schur of Mimran Schur Pictures is producing and he calls the project, "a hillbilly Pulp Fiction." He also says the script is "fast-moving and action packed. It's also very funny. It's got all these elements to ...

Briefly: You've got to appreciate a move like this. Jesse Eisenberg is enjoying justified praise for his work in The Social Network, and will very likely score an Oscar nomination in the deal. So what does he do to follow up the film? He signs on to a small-ish indie dramedy called Free Samples. Limp Bizkit frontman turned film director Fred Durst has been given the keys to the action/black comedy Pawn Shop Chronicles. Written by Adam Minarovich, the script is said to be in the vein of Pulp Fiction with 24 Frames describing it as such: “in a nutshell, a missing wedding ring leads to a wild-goose chase involving meth addicts, skinheads and an Elvis impersonator.” Meth addicts, skinheads, and an Elvis impersonator? With a trio like that, honestly, who’s not going to pay to see this film?
Pawn Shop Chronicles is being financed and produced by Jordan Schur, the CEO and co-chairman of the film production company Mimran Schur. Schur and Durst go way back as the latter signed the former to a record deal on his label Flip Records. As such, if you’ve ever grown weary of hearing the term “nookie” (a slim chance, but nevertheless), you now know where the blame truly lies.

The Event? Whoop-doo!
The Event? Keep it coming! New series. Airs Monday nights at 9/8 central on NBC. Episode 1.02: Keep Us Safe airs September 27th.
What is The Event? Certain characters know, but the writers of this show aren't telling. Not yet. Though, they claim we'll know soon enough. Apparently it involves a giant ball of blue phlegm that is spit forth from the heavens above. One that is capable of swallowing airliners whole. And Laura Innes, who is spoken to in a manner only befitting an alien presence from space definitely has something to do with it. But who or what is she? Only time will tell in this eager jolt of itchy anticipation.
The Event is a jittery child that doesn't sit down long enough for us to get comfortable with it. It herks and jerks between various months, giving us little snippets of the past; images only complicated by the immediate future.
