    • Trivia
Baby Gerald, Luigi Risotto, Assistant Superintendent Leopold, and Flanders' parents make their first appearances on the show in this episode. Leopold and Luigi were designed by David Silverman, one of the show's directors. Bob Anderson thought Luigi was one of the funniest characters on the show when he first read Luigi's lines in the script during a table read of the episode. When Anderson skimmed through the script and saw Luigi's lines, he said he "frightened Julie Kavner because I was laughing to myself, but trying to keep the laughter in because it was so damn funny."

Mrs. Krabappel feeds Santa's Little Helper cookies that Martin calls "Raisin Roundies." Raisins are incredibly toxic to dogs. It is very likely Santa's Little Helper would have died in the closet before he smelled the horse meat.

Principal Skinner: Now I... I finally have time to do what I've always wanted: write the great American novel. Mine is about a futuristic amusement park where dinosaurs are brought to life through advanced cloning techniques. I call it "Billy and the Cloneasaurus."

Apu: Oh, you have got to be kidding sir. First you think of an idea that has already been done. Then you give it a title that nobody could possibly like. Didn't you think this through...

      [fade to later]

Apu: ... it was on the bestseller list for eighteen months! Every magazine cover had...

      [later]

Apu: ... one of the most popular movies of all time, sir! What were you thinking?

      [pause]

Apu: I mean, thank you, come again.

Principal Skinner is fired from Springfield Elementary School.

This is a memorable episode with strong humour and memorable character moments for Skinner and Bart.

There are two aspects of the story I like. Firstly the initial scenes of madness that lead up to Skinner's dismissal. This includes great sight gags, a solid movie tribute and strong use of the character Groundskeeper Willy.

All the following scenes involving Skinner and Bart are not just funny, but a nice little arc between the two characters. Skinner is written as the archetypal single man. The final visual gag is a perfect way to finish it.
