Storyline

A wave of chickenpox is spreading through the town, and when Kenny comes down with the disease, the parents decide to infect all the boys so that they'll be immune from it later in life. When the kids find out how they're being used, they decide to get revenge by finding something to infect their parents with. Meanwhile, Kyle's and Kenny's fathers' reminiscences about their childhood friendship turn to resentment over how far their paths diverged. Written by Jean-Marc Rocher <rocher@fiberbit.net>

Could have used more satire

This episode is about chickenpox and the title really does say it all. It's a pretty basic setup with the parents of the boys tricking them into spending time with Kenny so they can get chickenpox at a younger age. In older age, it's more dangerous which is factually true. It could have been funnier, but it does bring up some interesting questions. How moral is it to expose your kids to chickenpox at a young age? Isn't it technically child abuse?

Trey Parker and Matt Stone themselves say they hate the first three seasons. It still has a lot of classic episodes. This show definitely didn't hit its stride until later. Many people dismissed it as a dumb crude show and at first, it kind of was that. This is still perfectly watchable. It's rare for Kenny to die of natural causes. ***
