MPAA Rated R for strong brutal and bloody violence, some graphic sexuality, language and nudity

Sex & Nudity

  • A man has sex with a prostitute. Her breasts are briefly shown. Everything else is under the sheets. Scene is brief.
  • A woman's breasts are briefly shown while she's laying in bed.
  • A newborn baby is shown clearly to be a girl.
  • A man fights two others while fully nude. His buttocks and genitals are shown while they fight.

Violence & Gore

  • A pregnant woman hemorrhages with blood flowing through her dress and onto the floor.
  • A man has his throat frenziedly slashed open with straight razor, resulting in realistic wounding and blood gushing out. The frozen corpse is shown being thawed and having a finger cut off in closeup. Later, the corpses hand is shown with all fingers removed.
  • Another slit throat later, without the direct violent action shown but when the victim removes his scarf, a bloody gaping wound is shown carved into his neck.
  • There is a knife fight which leaves bloody slashes and at least two people dead. During the course of the fight, an arm is broken and a man has his eye perforated deeply with a knife, killing him (blood squirts and sprays across the floor and from his wound). Another man is stabbed in the back of the head (Blood pours out of the wound). The aftermath is quite bloody.
  • A man kicks his son repeatedly.


  • 32 uses of "fuck" are present. The S-word is used twice. "Queer" is used a number of times to mean homosexual.
  • Several offensive references are made towards black people.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There are references to heroin used to drug women for sex. Several characters drink heavily throughout the movie, including drinking to the point of intoxication. Many of the characters smoke cigarettes, and one character extinguishes his cigarette on his own tongue.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The fight scene in the sauna is extremely violent. NOT for the faint of heart.
  • Sections of a diary, when narrated in several parts of the film, describe disturbing instances of rape and sexual torture.
