Her wealthy roommate is found with one of her rings, making her a suspect as the two were not friends. Quotes

Walter Camp: [to Novak] You have no idea what gambling addiction is like, do you? Last year, I lost $30,000 in one night playing poker online. And the next night, I chased my losses, and I lost another 40 grand. My wife jammed my laptop down the garbage chute and made me go to counseling. I kept on playing. You know what made me stop? Loan sharks broke my leg.
ADA Casey Novak: But you didn't kill your wife to pay the loan sharks off with her insurance money, did you?

Education's high cost
27 July 2013 | by See all my reviews

The SVU squad gets to investigate the murder of a college coed who not having some rich parents has to raise tuition money any way she can. As the squad investigates they finds that the victim was selling term papers on line and also doing a little high stakes gambling as well.

Eventually Benson, Stabler and Tutuola settle on Will Estes, a childhood friend of the victim who has similar financial problems. Estes is also reaching for the moon in other ways. He's going out with the victim's roommate Trieste Kelly Dunn who is one high maintenance girl. It's what leads to his downfall.

Both Dunn and Estes shine in this SVU episode. The cost of education is certainly high, too high for some.
