Storyline

The supposedly servile Ood are now in the control of some type of beast that describes itself as Satan and claims to be a being that has existed since before the creation of the known universe. Rose takes charge and tries to find a way to get everyone out safely. The Doctor and Ida have descended 10 miles into the bowels of the planet only to find themselves trapped there and unable to return to the surface. They find evidence of a ancient civilization and a seemingly bottomless pit where the doctor confronts the beast and finds the solution. The only problem is that the solution may kill Rose. Trivia

Due to the shooting schedule (especially the fact that all of the episodes with the Cybermen needed to be shot together), this episode was shot closest to its air date. Combined with the immense amount of CGI work needed in this episode, the production staff was concerned about finishing it by the air date and, in fact, were unable to provide a preview tape to the media as they usually did (prompting speculation that they did not release a preview because of some big plot-based secret). leap of faith
24 January 2007 | by movieman_kevSee all my reviews

I thoroughly enjoyed the first part of this two parter, The Impossible Planet, and was slightly worried that the second part wouldn't hold up quite so well as has been true in the past of the two parters of the past 2 Who series. But thankfully my fears were unfounded as I found myself enjoying this episode as much as the previous one. Anyway we start off with the surviving crew members on the run from the Ood, whom have become the Devil's pawn. There is also a bit of philosophizing on the Doctor's part in the episode that I quite enjoyed. Needless to say it was a good solid Doctor Who story. Might be a tad too intense for the younger viewers though.

My Grade: B+
