Quotes

Cason Thomas: What started it, son?
Johnny Ringo: I don't know, it just grew. First time you felt like a big man, everybody congratulating you... Then you try it again, just to see how good you really are. One day you find you're like a turkey in a shoot. Everybody wants to try their luck. You can't stop it. You wanna, but you can't. You run, they catch you. You hide, they find you. Sometimes you think it'd be better to lose. Be a little slower and get it over with. You think so, but you just can't slow down that hand. ...

Johnny Ringo's pilot
16 December 2016 | by bkoganbingSee all my reviews

I do remember the Johnny Ringo western series from my youth even though it did last only for a season. Watching this Zane Grey Theater story it reminded me that it was produced by Four Star Television.

The real Johnny Ringo was a mean and murderous individual. But here and in the series Don Durant plays him as a weary gunfighter who takes the job of sheriff of a small Arizona town because what else does he know? In this town the bad element all congregate at the saloon owned and run by Scott Forbes. You know that's where the showdown will be.

The roles that are played here by Thomas Mitchell and Marilyn Erskine were recast in the television series by Terence DeMarney and Karen Sharpe.

Nice half hour television pilot, shame the series didn't last longer.
