Peter Piper Picked A Peck of Pickled Explosives
6 September 2009 | by DKosty123See all my reviews

This is an excellent first episode establishing Dr Lovelass as Jim West primary enemy. The first Michael Dunn sequence with Voltaire on the dock waiting for the scientist to come out & then blowing him up is a classic entrance for a very poignant series of episodes to come. In this first season, Lovelass would do more episodes than any other enemy of West would in the series.

The clock tower sequence at the end is very well done indeed. While some folks my not care for the song sequence, it establishes a story line the Lovelass is not your ordinary adversary. It starts with his physical training sequence which is quite well staged and one of the few really physical sequences done in the series by anyone besides West & Gordon.

Everything here is good, though later in the season when Richard Donner directs The Night of The Murderous Spring, things get even better technically, this one is solid & a great starter. Lovelass goes over his family history in this one & how he is entitled to own most of California. Considering Lovelass pension for the finer things in life that are well drawn in this show, you get the sense of the Napoleon Bonaparte he would become in later shows.

Classic Action-Adventure 1960's Television.
