The Night of the Red-Eyed Madmen

6 years after a career-making turn in Hitchcock's "North by Northwest," a bearded Martin Landau guest stars in this installment of the TV series as the aptly named General Grimm. Wouldn't you know that a leader of a private army of soldiers in which women are the equals of men would be considered a megalomaniacal villain in this show's misogynistic world?!? Well that's exactly the scenario in this episode. So, hey, welcome to conservative television in 1965, eh?!? Landau's character has designs on the desert Southwest of the U. S., and believes that a trained military full of super soldiers is the proper way of approaching gaining control over the region. Some silly and dated stuff in this one, but I'll round its rating up to 7 of 10 for Martin Landau. Artie facing down an armed super soldier on his train is also a highlight of this series episode.
