Storyline

Davey Baxter along with his sick mother and younger brother Wally are traveling to California to settle supposedly prime land to which they have a deed. The young Davey is engaged to a young seventeen year old Susan Forbes who is traveling with her parents. Davey, a dreamer, is constantly making plans for the land he wants to farm but he has yet to see. First, however, the wagon train must cross a high narrow pass that has been partially blocked by a landslide. They clear as much as they can but the path at one point is very narrow and rocky. The experienced Charlie Wooster takes his wagon through. Davey is second and when a rear wheel is trapped in a rut, he loses control of the horses causing the wagon to tumble off the side. Davey's mother is killed but Davey is alive but his right arm is crushed and trapped under the wagon. Using ropes Chris and Duke are lowered to them and rescue Davey and recover his mother's body. With the doctor away, Chris is left to work on the arm. Unable ... Written by Anonymous

Horrible Random Acts
13 February 2018 | by See all my reviews

We are all the victims at times of horrible random acts that come at us from nowhere. Such a tragedy takes place to Claudia Bryar and her two sons Tommy Sands and Charles Herbert traveling on Chris Hale's Wagon Train west.

During a drive up a rugged mountain pass which even Charlie Wooster has trouble negotiating, the Bryar wagon falls off. Bryar is killed outright and Sands's right arm is caught in the wreckage.

With no doctor around and no way to lift him out, John McIntire is forced to amputate the arm. The dominant arm as it is with most of us. Baseball fans know the story of how righthanded Mickey Mantle taught himself to switch hit. Training to use the not dominant arm is grueling hard work when the dominant is not available.

Sands of course blames McIntire and who's to know. The wagonmaster did the best he could with the facts of the situation. In addition Sands was planning to marry Jeannine Riley later of Petticoat Junction. Those plans are also on hold.

Sands who always seemed to play youths with chips on their shoulders justified or not on the big and small screen is in his element here. Riley also does well as the patient sweetheart.

Watch and see how this works out for them.
