Storyline

Three wagons carrying the Bleecker family are near Fort Bridger when the young brother Dave Bleecker spots a lone Shoshone brave on a mountain top overlooking the wagons. With a couple of shots he kills the brave which brings the ire of his older brother Al. Al is worried about someone hearing the shots. In a couple of minutes a rider, Duke Shannon, rides up while scouting for the Hale wagon train. Al and his mother Ma Beecker tell Duke they are farmers looking for a wagon train to join up with to head west. Duke tells them where to go to meet the wagon train the next day. As he leaves he asks about the shots which led him to them but Dave says he was trying to kill a jack rabbit. After Duke leaves Al makes Dave go bury the brave. When the Beeckers join the wagon train, they refuse to mix with the others including stopping the unmarried Jenny Hynes from going to the dances. In reality they want the wagon train to use as cover to get into Fort Bridger to rob the gold bullion stored ... Written by Anonymous

Ma Bleecker and her boys
20 May 2013 | by bkoganbingSee all my reviews

Joan Blondell guest stars in The Bleecker Story on Wagon Train. Joan's a mom here in the tradition of Ma Barker and she's raised her sons Ed Nelson and Tim McIntire in a fine criminal tradition.

The Bleeckers join the train as pioneers like any other, but they have as their objective to take the Wagon Train hostage and ride into Fort Bridger and take a gold shipment that's there. They pretty near succeed in their objective, but leave a couple of loose ends that does in the plan.

Tim and Holly McIntire children of Wagonmaster John McIntire and Jeannette Nolan in real life play a Bleecker son and the wife of the second Bleecker brother Ed Nelson. But it's Joan Blondell who really sparks this episode with her portrayal of a totally amoral woman who really should never be a mother. One wonders what her late husband must have been like.

This is a good Wagon Train episode to check out.
