A former judge is shot dead and Van der Valk is brought in to solve the case. A suspect is apprehended, but confesses that someone else got to the the woman first. Moreover, what is the connection between the judge's killing and a drug case Wim is investigating? Written by Anonymous
The shooting of a retired female judge is Van der Valk's latest assignment. He takes the case from his colleague Stefan Szabo (Brian Cox) whose partner has just lost their baby.
At the same time Van der Valk's son is acting suspiciously. They were staking the husband for suspected money laundering and dealings with South American drug gangs.
It all leads to Van der Valk to suspect if the Judge was really the target or did she find out more about her husband's furtive dealings.
By the time this was shown, Brian Cox had acquired a cult reputation for being the first actor to portray Hannibal Lecktor in Manhunter. At the time The Silence of the Lambs was cleaning up at the awards season.
The story itself goes along nicely although it does meander a bit here and there. With Anthony Valentine and Malcolm Tierney in the cast, you never have to look far as to who the culprits might be.
An interesting notion is raised that there are those who think they are so well connected that they could get away with any crime.
