Van der Valk is seen yawning a lot in this one. In once scene he is shown wearing just his underpants. No wonder the episode had a warning beforehand.

Van der Valk and Kroon have been spending day and night investigating the death of a man found stabbed in a block of flats. It turns out that the deceased was a former policeman who was now a private investigator.

Suspicion moves to not the people in the apartment block he was found in but the block opposite. The dead man who watching someone and tracking their moves.

Suspicion falls on a young couple. A cinema projectionist and a university dropout who is the daughter of a police chief outside of Amsterdam. It turns out the police chief hired the investigator as he feared that his daughter had fallen in with bad company such as drug dealers.

It is a straightforward case for Van der Valk. Kroon makes a mistake which meant the link between the police chief and the deceased was not caught earlier. So it really only comes down to a few suspects.

I think there was a message about caring for your loved ones. Arlette shows her love for Van der Valk by bringing in a change of clothes at the police station as he has been up all night.
