The terrorist Patrick Collins is shot in the abdomen by his own compatriots. Hector Williams evaluates his condition and says that "peritonitis is almost certain." Once Collins and the team are on the extraction plane, Collins asks for food. While this is a diversion to allow him to escape interrogation, Jonas Blane (or anyone else with any medical training) should have known to deny food. Even if peritonitis wasn't "almost certain," American medical protocol since at least the Korean War has been only to give water to patients with abdominal wounds, as any other fluids or food will cause peritonitis.
