"I'd love him even if he were poor." -- London Tipton.
18 January 2007 | by See all my reviews

For a kid's show, "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" has had some hilarious episodes. It also had some touching ones, most notably "A Prom Story." Not to be outdone in that department is "Cookin' With Romeo and Juliet," and the one line I chose for the title of this review is the reason.

Former Tipton hotel inspector Ilsa(Caroline Rhea) is married and working for the rival upscale hotel chain across the street. It just so happens that the heir of this hotel is London's new boyfriend Todd St. Mark(Ben Ziff), and since both hotel owners are in competition with each other(with their respected representatives trying to steal each other's guests), they both forbid their kids to get together. Maddie on the other hand tries to help them break their parents' rules, because in this case, London doesn't just like him for his money. If you haven't guessed by now, London is Juliet and Todd is Romeo, and since London is such an aloof, uncultured bimbo, Maddie has to explain how her situation parallels the Shakesphere play. The only difference is there's no double-suicide(this IS a Disney Channel series).

Secondary to this is Cody's ability to make cookies, which Mr. Moseby finds out are excellent. Zack tries to exploit his brother for all he's worth, by making a deal with Moseby for both to use the hotel kitchen. As you can probably guess, they get in a fight, it spills out of the kitchen, and chaos is inevitable.

Still, it's that one line by Brenda Song after the chaos is over and she's grounded by her yet-to-be seen father that makes this worthwhile, because it shows that for the moment, she has truly fallen in love. And anybody who has watched this show long enough, or is in any way familiar with spoiled, ignorant rich people can appreciate that.
