Deliberately spreads misinformation about the Holocaust
2 November 2006 | by See all my reviews

The general public in the USA is so ignorant and misinformed about about issues which people in other countries consider common knowledge. A good example is the Holocaust during WWII. It really seems that the U.S. population gets most of their knowledge from entertainment. Most of the entertainment, as well as media outlets who operate news broadcasts, constantly serve the public information which is either incomplete, incorrect or exaggerated. People then believe these things to be true, when they actually are not. We also see this happening to a large degree when it comes to issues surrounding 9/11 and the war in Iraq. In regards to this episode of Sue Thomas, people in other (developed) nations, especially in the West, are very well aware that the Nazis did not only round up Jews, but many other people as well. Political activists, communists, deaf, mentality handicapped, Roma & Sinti Gypsies, Jehova's Witnesses, etc. etc. A search on the Internet or a visit to Wikipedia can give you all this information if you don't have access to any historical books on this subject. Certainly, most people don't know in detail the various groups that the Nazis rounded up and murdered. You really have to read up on it. But like I said, it is at least common knowledge in other countries that the Jews were not singled out and that other people were also murdered. Most people in the USA also believe that of the 6 million people murdered in the Nazi concentration camps, all were Jewish. It is in reality 3 million with the other million being non-Jewish. The rest of the 3 million Jews murdered were killed outside of concentration camps. Being an individual who actually knows about this horrible part of human history, I find it difficult to understand that the producers of Sue Thomas did not know the real truth. To have a film character say "You were in a concentration camp? But, you're not Jewish" and broadcast this to the general public is completely unacceptable. It is actually an insult towards the millions of other people who were also murdered by the Nazi Regime. Even the previous poster says he/she was surprised to know that deaf people were put in concentration camps. This just goes to show how bad the education system is and how bad of a job the media does in portraying historical events. People actually believe the stories in the media as being accurate tellings of true events, when they are not. Part of me actually wonders if the producers of Sue Thomas did this on purpose. The fact that we are supposed to feel sorry for this woman and then feel angry about the Nazi character is very simple to induce into the audience, and it probably achieved this very well with many people. Otherwise, this episode does nothing but spread misinformation about true events in history. For that, I am expressing my strong criticism and I'm giving this episode a low rating.
