What if the guy whose wife got killed accidentally by the cops showed just a little emotion at her loss? That was about the most emotionless performance I've seen since Season 1's Texas guy lost his wife to a couple of killers. This "specialist" starts killing the cops who were present when his wife was shot, but not really for revenge. No, it's because he is delusional and thinks the cops were really trying to kill him all along. He's also a government trained assassin, so he knows a thing or two about killing people. Starsky and Hutch are in trouble because they are his next targets. But...
What if there were any sort of rules for sexual conduct in the workplace in the 70s? Well, then, Starsky and Hutch would be in even more trouble, because their hands are all over their fellow female officer. It is so strange to see that kind of touchy-freely behavior these days and realize it might have been the accepted norm once upon a time. (At least she puts them in their place at the end.)
What if Dobie's department ever reported on the ballistics for the bullet that killed the wife? They sure dropped the ball there and never gave us the results. Since I only saw Starsky and Hutch on the scene when she was shot, maybe we don't want to know. There seemed to be almost as much lack of emotion on the part of the cops as there was in the husband. *We're very sorry we killed your wife, let us know where to ship the body......*
What if this trained assassin had used his rifle scope and actually hit Starsky and/or Hutch when he was shooting at them? You might think a trained assassin would be a better shot. But then the final shoot-out would not have been as exciting.
What if upper echelon bureaucrats and government officials had hearts and didn't use people and throw them away like garbage, leaving emotionally damaged trained assassins around to kill people? Well, then we would have totally run out of bad guys for 70s crime dramas (and even now, come to think of it. Government officials and bureaucrats still make good bad guys to this day. You may not be able to pat your female co-worker's behind anymore, but a good bureaucratic bad guy will never go out of style.)
What if I didn't like Starsky and Hutch so darn much? Well, this show would probably get a rating 5 instead of a 7.
