The attempt to forge an alliance with the Tok'ra seems a miserable failure, as SG-1 is practically imprisoned as a security risk and considered virtually hostile because 'blending', by agreeing to host a symbiote, is a bridge too far for each of them. When SG-3 arrives and informs Sam about her terminally ill father General Jacob Carter's quickly worsening condition, she realizes the symbiote's healing powers, confirmed to apply to cancer, make hosting an offer to good to refuse for him. Garshaw allows Sam and Jack to return and convince both generals to allow the plan, which is achieved. Meanwhile, the Tok'ra must hastily evacuate, destroying tunnels behind them, because a large-scale attack by Apophis's troops is expected soon, while Jacob meets his potential symbiotic partner Selmak and his equally terminal predecessor to help him decide. The Tok'ra still need a host for one of their dying leaders; when SG-1 refuse, the Tok'ra refuse an alliance. The arrival of SG-3 to retrieve Sam Carter is not well received by the Tok'ra who fear it is an act of aggression. Since none of the Earthlings have offered to act as host for the dying Selmak, they decide to relocate to a new planet for security reasons and hold onto the Earthlings until they are ready to leave. O'Neill thinks the Tok'ra have a spy in their midst and helps identify him. Sam, meanwhile, thinks they may have a solution to the Tok'ra's need for a host and is allowed to return to Earth to convince her dying father, Jacob Carter, that he has an option to dying. Sam offers her father to blend with the Tok'ra that is dying so that its healing ability can save General Jacob Carter. Garshaw lets Sam and Jack return to Earth to convince General Jacob Carter to accept the offer. Meanwhile, the Goa'uld spaceships are attacking the Tok'ra and they need to flee to another planet. When Jack returns with Sam and her father, he suspects that a traitor is in contact with the Goa'uld, and he helps to find the responsible.
