There's a party on Deep Space Nine, as Sisko has just been promoted to captain. Ambassador Krajensky is in attendance, but, he's there to tell of a coup which just took place on the Tzenkethi home world. Krajensky wants to remind them the Federation is still committed to the protection of the colonies. Sisko takes the Defiant to Tzenkethi space. While working on the ship O'Brien hears some strange sounds, and soon the communications array malfunctions. O'Brien and Dax discover a parasitic tube-like system which is invading the ship's equipment, protected by a forcefield, which must be stopped before it takes full control leaving the crew to die. In the teaser for the episode Sisko is promoted to captain, however in the opening credits of the show he is still credited as "Commander Sisko". This is the last episode to credit Sisko as a commander. It is also the last time Sisko is seen with hair and it is the last episode to have the opening credits from Season 1. See more

Commander's log, stardate 48959.1 - It is with mixed emotions that I record this, my final Commander's log. The last three years have been the most demanding and rewarding of my career. I can only hope that the future will hold even greater challenges.
