Season One Gets Better!
TWGProductions15 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
"Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride", the fourth episode in the season, takes on homosexuality. One of my favorite things about South Park is that there is no sacred cows and this episode is the start of taking on very taboo topics. I was extremely young when this episode came out so I can't say how controversial it was back then, but I can relate it to today's issues regarding Gay Marriage but I digress. "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride" was interesting, funny, and just nice to watch.

The plot centers around Stan and his dog, Sparky. This episode begins with Stan presenting to Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman his new dog Sparky (George Clooney). Stan boasts that Sparky is the toughest dog on the mountain because of what breed Sparky is, but Cartman contests and says Sylvester, a homeless, wild dog is tougher. We discover Sparky's sexual orientation when the boys antagonize the dogs to fight. Sparky literally "kicks ass" and that lays the groundwork for the episode. In the meantime Stan is also tasked with defeating an arch-rival, Middle Park Elementary in a football game that has them losing to a +70 point spread. Cue Jimbo and Ned to help add more heat to the fire as they boast about how good Stan is and end up placing huge bets that South Park will beat the +70 spread, hilariously, everyone else places high bets that South Park will beat the spread; this prompts Jimbo and Ned to find a back-up plan that involves the Middle Park mascot, a bomb, Richard Stamos, and "Loving You". Meanwhile we get Stan trying to figure out what is wrong with his dog. Considering Sharon, Stan's mom hasn't been introduced into the show yet, Stan can't go to her, but instead goes to the next best thing, his teach, Mr. Garrison. Stan asks Mr. Garrison about homosexuality and Mr. Garrison's response was absolutely hilarious. Mr. Garrison tells Stan that gay people are evil and starts listing off absolutely horrendous attributes of gay people. Stan is increasingly taking his mind off of the football game and now tries to ask Jesus about homosexuality and when Jesus tries to answer he gets cut off right before his answer. After this Stan starts getting depressed as he doesn't want a gay dog; sadly, Sparky, is outside listening to Kyle and Stan talk and decides to run away and ends up at Big Gay Al's Big Gay Animal Sanctuary. Stan discovers his dog ran away and decides he won't attend the football game but goes to find his dog. Stan stumbles upon the Animal Sanctuary and finds Sparky but still doesn't understand that being gay isn't a choice so Big Gay Al shows Stan the history of gay people and eventually comes to terms that he can't change his dog and accepts Sparky for who he is. Better yet, he returns to the football game, beats the spread, and leads everyone to find their long-lost pets. Hilariously, Richard Stamos kills a horse at the end after hitting a High-F that he couldn't hit before.

Overall, this episode was a great beginning to the South Park "soapbox" that handles political, social, and civil issues. I found this episode fun, intelligent, and still hilarious with some dialogue like "That dog is a gay homosexual." Overall, this episode earns a solid 9 out of 10.

Big Gay Al's big gay boatride is the fourth episode of South Park. This is where the show starts to get better. In this episode, Stan has a homosexual dog named Sparky. After his teacher Mr Garrison tells him gay people are evil and the other children make fun of him he tries to dissuade Sparky from being gay.Sparkey eventually runs away from home and goes to "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Animal Sanctuary".Meanwhile Stan is also the quarterback of the school football team.He is decent while the rest are pretty bad(this episode marks the speaking debut of "Pip"(though he was in a few scenes in the extended version of Cartman gets an anal probe).Stan's Uncle Jimbo and Ned bet on Stan's team and everybody else does too. They are not sure if the team will win or not, so they decide to rig the halftime show.Big Gay Al's big gay boatride is a good episode and the show starts getting better after this one.

Warning: Spoilers
The boys are at the bus stop when Stan's dog Sparky rapes another male dog. Then later on while the boys are at football practice, he rapes another male dog. Stan being confused Mr Garrison about gays to which Mr Garrison replies " Gay people are evil and to go to football practice like a good heterosexual" Soon Sparky runs away because Stan doesn't want a gay dog. He ends up at Big Gay Al's Big Gay Animal Sanctuary. Stan goes to get his dog back and Al takes him on a 'It's a Small World' like ride to teach him the history of gayness. The absurdity is hilarious.

Kenny dies during the football game when he is tackled by the entire opposing team

"that dog is a gay homosexual"

Warning: Spoilers
Jerry Seinfeld once wanted to be voice a character (as a fan of South Park) and he had the chance to appear in the Thanksgiving episode of this the first South Park Season but in the end Seinfeld didn't appeared. The reason? Well, Seinfeld wasn't dealing with Matt Groening and company, he was dealing with guys that were not going to make a great song and dance about his appearance in their show... he was offered to voice turkey number 4 but Seinfeld's manager call back being like "don't you realize this is Jerry Seinfeld? He can't be turkey number 4, he's so much more important than that...dumbass".

On the contrary of Jerry Seinfeld another big fan, George Clooney, leaved the ego behind and became part of South Park by providing the "voice" of Stan's new dog Sparky. Of course Clooney should be proud, sure it was just barking and stuff but he was in a South Park episode and boy, what an episode! More intelligent, this one, Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride, is the best one of the first four episodes of South Park (the four episodes that are on the first disc of the DVD set), probably just the best of the Season (it's the favourite of Trey and Matt) but I have to see the rest of episodes, since I haven't seen them in years, to can really say.

Anyway, this is a great episode that begins with Stan presenting to Cartman, Kyle and Kenny his new dog, a part Doberman part wolf that as soon as is asked to show that it is a really tough canine as soon as we have Cartman saying "that dog is a gay homosexual" (!). What's next? How does Stan reacts after knowing that his dog is gay? Well, first let's not forget, as Stan's uncle Jimbo did in Volcano, that we are dealing with 8 year old kids (I have to quote again Cartman with his "that dog is a gay homosexual") so Stan will have to ask and here we don't have Randy or Sharon or Shelly (then the two women were yet to be drawn!) then is time for Stan to consult his teacher... and Jesus himself! The consequences: well, Stan will be like "Garrison said homosexuals are evil but Sparky isn't evil" and he will not know the statement of Jesus on homosexuality. It's really clever and hilarious, sure having a gay dog in your show is quite bizarre but the use of that character is really good (and well, you have to laugh hard each time Cartman is like "did you check the shopping?"), yeah there's the tolerance thing and a great and shocking for the South Park people end with the quarterback of the football team being like "and it's okay to be gay".

And yes this is also a pretty nice football episode; like I said, here we don't have Randy or Sharon or Shelly but we do have Jimbo...and Ned! The other plot of this episode is just great, a bit more normal but nevertheless hilarious. It's football time in South Park then time for yet another beat of the Cows by the Cowboys (not quite the ones from Dallas though!). I love how it ends (and is very hilarious and memorable the very first appearance of Pip... he just wanted a football helmet!) since it doesn't goes far from the reality, I mean you celebrate if your –add your favourite sport's name here- team makes any improvement...no matter if the improvement is just to score a touchdown to beat the spread (yeah you still lose 73 to 6 but hey you didn't beat for a victory!). To end I just want to add some great words of Chef: "football is like making love to a really beautiful woman: you can't always score, but when you do it makes all the trying worthwhile". Oh and it's really cool to hear DVDA's "Now You're A Man"!

Something from the fireside chat with Matt and Trey: maybe one of your biggest questions is finally answered here since the interviewer asks them "why does Kenny have to die so often and so horribly?" and both Trey and Matt respond: "because he's poor".

Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride (#1.4)
ComedyFan201013 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This episode goes into the topic of homosexuality and brings us many wonderful moments and really memorable jokes.

First of all the exploration of the gay dog was pretty funny. "This dog is a gay homosexual" is a great quote.

And we get to see Jesus. I think it was a great joke how he was telling us once and for all his stance on homosexuality and was cut off in the middle of it.

Watching Mr. Garrison being so hateful to the gays was also great knowing how he will end up being. His homophobia while being in the closet and Chef so openly saying he thinks he is gay was great. So was Garrison's attempt to save himself by claiming he does it to get chicks.

The sanctuary for gay animals was also a great idea, as well as the adorable dog wearing a pink bandanna and Stan accepting him at the end for who he is.

Pretty solid episode, Mr. Garrison being gay starts here and then we get into all that other stuff. Big Gay Al is a great character and overall it's a good episode and some of Matt and Trey's first political episode content. Stan and Kyle are still too similar but it's early obviously. 7.6.

This is probably the first south park episode to make me laugh out loud throughout. It really feels more like the south park we know today than the first few episodes.
