Storyline

Frank gets fired from a a toy fair as head pixie as he disastrously oversteps his role, at the expense of sales and safety. His worries about another unemployment are alleviated when he receives a BBC letter, (worrying Betty) he was entered for a handyman program, which comes to film his 'achievements' in the house. First he proves even the lowest gear suffices to make a driving lesson extremely dangerous. After making the recording session the most stressing and unhandy ever, it's time for his driving test. However experienced, the examiner gets the scare of his life. Written by KGF Vissers

May I be Frank?
20 December 2013 | by See all my reviews

Okay this is the second of the Some Mothers Do Ave Em Christmas Specials and the seventh Christmas Special I have reviewed this month. This one does have some funny moments and your typical Frank Spencer not being able to get anything right. This is a funny watch but this does have problems.

The biggest complaint I have with this episode is that all the best parts are in the first 5 minutes. Seeing Frank as a pixie in the department store getting the guy playing Santa Claus down from his flying saucer in your typical Frank Spencer way while being insulted by those horrible kids... That was funny - they should have made an entire episode on more situations there.

What's wrong with the rest? Well we've seen Frank drive in another episode and it was funnier there. It was still funny here but not as much. Then there's the silent film part, that was a little bit funny as are parts of this episode I may have missed but again - it's nothing on the first 5 minutes.

If there is anything else to comment on it's that for a Christmas special there isn't a lot of this that has to do with Christmas. If you skip over the first scene you will have to be told it has anything to do with Christmas.

With that said this episode is... semi-worth it. There are some things worth looking at in this episode if you enjoy watching this show but as I said the best part is definitely the first 5 minutes and it's kind of puzzling why they didn't make an episode of him getting the job at the department store, going through the usual stuff that happens when Frank gets a job and gets fired on a background that has more to do with Christmas... It's just puzzling.
