Storyline

Frank was looking forward to playing Joseph in the annual Nativity play, but the parish wisely casts another. Meanwhile his 'RAF record' got Frank a job with Mr. Hudson's firm, working under his neighbor Jackson, who hates the noise Frank makes at anything. Jackson has secret activities in the firm's basement, too close to Frank whose bumbling is blamed on the foreman. Father O'Hara lets Frank take charge of the Nativity sets and effects: an ill-considered act of charity cast and church will suffer from. Written by KGF Vissers

Out of all the Some Mothers Do Ave Em Christmas specials - this is my favourite
20 December 2013 | by WakenPayneSee all my reviews

For the sixth Christmas title I will review in celebration of Christmas is the first Some Mothers Do Ave Em Christmas Special that I have watched since I was about 12 years old and for some reason have been watching it ever since. Like a few distinct Christmas specials there isn't a moral to the story but instead we see the character we both love and find annoying at the same time - Frank Spencer.

The plot for this is Frank is anxious about Christmas because it's Jessica's first Christmas. He simply wants to do well in his job... His current job and play Joseph in The Nativity Play for the year as he has done traditionally... Easier said than done.

There really isn't much I can comment on aside from the humour. That is actually well done and doesn't really age even after all this time watching it. I also liked the writing and how they manage to balance Frank out as being both annoying, likable and funny all at once. There isn't really a dull moment in this. If there's anything wrong with it, it's the character of Jackson. He always screams his lines except for when he's talking to his boss. Even when Frank does nothing he still does that, it's not funny. In this case it's loud and annoying.

So all in all this isn't a bad Christmas Special. There are a few things that could have been executed better but for a Some Mothers Do Ave Em Christmas Special this is a decent little watch and easily the best of the three attempts at Christmas specials.
