Meanwhile, Lex Luthor joins Luthor Corp. and his father, Lionel, requires a $50 million life insurance from him which increases Lex's suspicions. Clark investigates the murder of Jake, and finds that the criminal is Jake's friend Van McNulty, who is killing people affected by the meteor rock radiation, and Lex is the next in his death list. When Clark saves Lex, Van sees that he is special and includes Clark in his bill, and learning of his vulnerability, the growingly paranoid and racist Van concocts and shoots Clark with a kryptonite bullet, and then decides to go after Lana for her association with Clark. Also, Chloe discovers that Lionel has taken all her research documents of Clark after discovering that she has begun investigating Lex. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Goofs

In this and other episodes, people are shown smelting meteor rock over a regular fire - in this episode Van McNulty uses a camp fire flame to turn the meteor rock from a solid to a molten liquid. Meteor's go through extreme heat when travelling through the Earth's atmosphere, much higher than that generated by a camp fire. See more »

Quotes

[after Clark saves Lana from a machine-gun-toting student vigilante]
Lana Lang: What I don't understand is... you're willing to walk into bullets for me, but you're not willing to share what's inside. Clark, if you don't open up to the people that love you, you'll always be alone. I can't believe you want to spend your life like that.
Clark Kent: I may not have a choice.
Lana Lang: You always have a choice.

Great Episode

When Lana Lang is attacked by her obsessed school pal Jake Pollan (Harris Allan) in the desert swimming pool of Smallville High School, he is mortally shot by an unknown shooter. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor joins Luthor Corp. and his father Lionel Luthor requires a US$ 50,000,000.00 life insurance from him. Clark investigates the murder of Jake, and finds that the criminal was Jake's friend Van McNulty (Jesse Metcalfe), who is killing people affected by the meteor shower, and Lex is the next in his death list. When Clark saves Lex, Van sees that he is special and includes Clark in his bill.

"Extinction" is another great episode of "Smallville", after the disappointing "Phoenix". In this story, the vulnerability of Clark Kent to kryptonite is once again exposed, but the resolution of the situation is good. My vote is nine.

Title (Brazil): "Extinção" ("Extinction")
