Ruth Ames returns to her old rural home. Before she even gets her coat off she begins to see her dead daughter Mindy, and hearing her calling "momma." Ruth also sees what appears to be the killing of someone, and sees an open grave in the cellar. When her daughter Jean and a friend arrive Ruth explains her visions, but no one really believes her -- especially after the cellar is dug up and no body is found. But when things that happened in the visions begin to come true, Jean suspects her mother's visions were not in her mind after all. Written by Ron Kerrigan <mvg@whidbey.com>

Better this time around
7 October 2013 | by See all my reviews

When I watched this episode about a year ago, I recall not being overly impressed, but I think it was because I wasn't used to the sloppy editing of this fine show, and how abruptly it usually ends. Now that I consider myself close to a veteran fan, I did appreciate it better this time around. I don't know much about Jane Wyman(Ruth Ames), but it sounds like she had an impressive career; anyway, she's a widow with a bad hairdo moving back into a creepy old mansion(of course), where she has visions that her dead daughter Mindy is hanging around, including a cool vision of a child's ball bouncing down the stairs. Look for some familiar faces in Stephanie Powers(her 2nd appearance), Dennis Dugan, and Rod McCary; unfortunately there's no Dr. Rhodes(Gary Collins)here, and that's a downer for me personally, but it's still a solid episode. An added bonus is the performance of Michael Lane, who portrays Sam, and who is the handyman of the old house; he is what you'd probably call a gentle giant, and he has the best scene for the money shot near the end, a scene which was an unexpected, but satisfying conclusion. Although edited a bit too much once again, it was another winner for a show which only has a few left.
