      Excellent!

This episode one of the best Simpsons episodes I've ever seen. After the celebration of "Love Day" (A feast invented by Costingtons), Homer has to take out a lot of garbage. On his way he has a conflict with the garbage men. After this, they decide not to take the Simpsons trash anymore. Homer has a crazy idea: He wants to become the next sanitation commissioner. A very funny episode with U2 as guest stars. And the "Garbagemen can" song was marvelous too. Steve Martin as Ray Patterson in another guest role. Another enemy for Homer! A great fun for everyone!

      9 of 10 Stars!

I wish garbage men were like that in real life

Without bankrupting a town of course, that would be so cool.

It'd be cool if another department in a town was like that and all over the top.

I really liked this episode it was so funny.

-1 Star for a celebrity reference.

Celebrity references are bad but this one doesn't mess with the plot too badly.

All those in favour of horse whipping ...

Homer runs for a local public office.

This is a classic episode with consistently strong humour and character moments.

Homer is used brilliantly by the writers as he goes on hilarious crusade that destroys everything and everyone in his path, including himself. For me there is one excellent punchline after another both in the dialogue and visuals. The political satire is superb as ever and rings true in life, especially in the behaviour of voters in certain countries throughout the past ten years.

The writers also include one of the best pieces of social and economic satire of all time, as we see the greedy corporations plotting 'Love Day' and the gullible masses (embodied by the Simpson family) falling for it.

      Homer Enters Politics

When Homer runs for Sanitation Commissioner, he wins because he makes empty promises to everyone. Then his solution is to simply spend all the money he has in one month, leaving the commission bankrupt. But he has a secret plan with some pretty dramatic results. A good take on campaign promises with nothing holding them up.

      • Quotes

Ray Patterson: Oh gosh. You know, I'm not much on speeches, but it's so gratifying to... leave you wallowing in the mess you've made. You're screwed, thank you, bye.

Moe: He's right. He ain't much on speeches.

      • Alternate versions
The 200th episode "Trash of the Titans" was edited for showing on British TV. Both utterances of the word "wanker" were cut out; the first by U2's Larry Mullen removed completely, and the second by Mr Burns was overdubbed with a "D'oooooh...". The episode was released uncut on a UK video titled "The Simpsons' Greatest Hits" which got a "12" certificate because of "moderate bad language".
