- TriviaDavid X. Cohen was inspired to write the episode after a trip to Manhattan's American Museum of Natural History, where he decided to turn the visit into a "business trip", and think of a possible episode connection to the museum. He initially wanted Lisa to find a "missing link" skeleton, and do an episode reminiscent of the Scopes Monkey Trial. George Meyer convinced him instead to have the focus be on an angel skeleton, while keeping an emphasis on the conflict between religion and science.
- GoofsWhen Professor Gould runs up and tells Lisa that the test results are inconclusive, Apu's skin color changes to white (or rather, yellow as is usually animated for white) for one shot.
- Quotes
Principal Skinner: [over intercom] Attention. All honor roll students will be rewarded by a trip to an archaeological dig. Also, all detention students will be punished with a trip to an archaeological dig.

Science is like...
A skeleton that resembles an angel is found during an archeological dig in Springfield.
This is a strong episode with some good themes underlying the plot.
There are some thought-provoking moments as the various characters react to the discovery. The conflict between religion and science is addressed nicely by certain characters with faith and other who are sceptical without scientific evidence. I also enjoyed the great parody of economic exploitation of the masses and how it ties into religion and consumerism.
For me the humour is average and I consider it an episode that is geared more towards cleverness that comedy.
The big reveal ending is very memorable.
