While happy with the progress and reception of the first season, series producer Gerard Glaister
still felt that the series wasn't living up to its full potential. He realized that the main problem was the main setting - the Café Candide, which was set in a small side street where it rarely had any Nazi visitors (the main German cast had only ever appeared in the Candide setting once in the first season). By upgrading the cafe to a restaurant in the main area of Brussels, it made more sense that the Germans would visit more frequently, upping the dramatic stakes. See more
