With Albert still imprisoned, Monique and Pascal have to cope with airmen carrying the bubonic plague from North Africa.
- The Allied advance is ironically making it increasingly difficult to send escaped pilots down the Belgian lines. As a result, a large group of them are being kept together in a safe house, but disaster strikes when one of the airmen, who's been serving in North Africa, falls ill, and Dr Keldermans recognizes all the symptoms of the Bubonic Plague. Nobody can leave the building and in the continued absence of Albert, in prison awaiting trial for the supposed murder of his wife. Natalie must manage the Candide on her own until the plague eventually burns itself out. Many of the German forces retreating to defend the fatherland, but Reinhardt remains, and having studied Brandt's notes on the Lifeline organisation, he begins asking questions at the Candide.
