When torpedo's are fired on the Seaquest, Commander Ford tells Captain Bridger they are traveling at 3 miles per minute. That would be 180 mph, or in nautical terms about 156 knots. While SeaQuest takes place in the not so distant future, as of 2016, the world record for fastest submarine is held by K-222, a Soviet Papa Class nuclear submarine which reached an official record submerged speed of 44.7 knots (~51 mph) during her sea trials in 1969 .
