Quotes

Fred G. Sanford: [Addressing the salesman in a magic trick store] Maybe you can help me?
Salesman: I doubt it. We deal in tricks, not in miracles.
Fred G. Sanford: Uh, well, then you just the man I wanna see. See, somebody played a very dirty trick on me.
Salesman: I can see. Mother Nature.

Whitman Mayo's final appearance as Grady
3 December 2016 | by See all my reviews

"The Defiant One" marked the final appearance of Whitman Mayo's Grady Wilson, seen here as a Houdini who did it. Aunt Esther has her usual greeting from Fred interrupted by the tuxedo-clad Grady, who locks them together in a pair of Chinese handcuffs that won't come apart. Grady carries the instructions in his pocket...in Chinese! Frank Nelson (fifth of six) is his usual obnoxious self as the magic shop salesman who's no help at all: "we deal in tricks, not in miracles!" "somebody played a very dirty trick on me" "I can see, Mother Nature!" The arrival of a Chinese man (KUNG FU's Philip Ahn) presents an opportunity to translate the instructions into English: "I, Howard Hughes, being of sound mind and body...!" Being chained to U.G.L.Y. definitely puts a cramp on Fred's evening date with the lovely Crazy Alice (Hazel Medina). Grady finished at 37 episodes, topped by only Aunt Esther with 48 and Bubba with 43.
