WENN Station Manager Victor Comstock (John Bedford Lloyd) decides to build a late night radio show around a (for 1940) revolutionary idea: take listener calls and put them on the air. After lining up a somewhat reluctant sponsor, (Bob Dorian) Comstock ignores the potential technical difficulties and puts the show on unrehearsed. After a series of glitches, the show produces a gripping dramatic moment when a young boy calls in to say his apartment is being burglarized, and the radio cast save the day by telling the child to turn up his radio and improvising an appearance by the Pittsburgh police at the scene. Afterward, Comstock pronounces the experiment a success, but they can never do it again since according to the station's engineer, their phone system cannot handle the calls.
