Freya Cargill, an old flame of Jeff's, asks for his help in investigating the death of her father, an archaeologist. There are plenty of eccentric suspects at the museum where he worked as well as the Bog People, the remains of a family perfectly preserved in peat bog for thousands of years but with an apparent life of their own. Jeff gets on the trail of stolen artefacts the theft of which were blamed on Professor Cargill while Marty has to take time off from minding a new ghost called Nesbit to help out.

The museum guide mentions that the male of the bog people was killed by several methods (I.e., bashed in the head, garrotted, throat slashed, staked face down).
